POLL: Do you like photo cards?
Nowadays I receive several of those holiday photo cards from people showing their family and pets.
It's nice to see the families change from year to year, but my main complaint is the cards don't stand up and there's really not much personalization put into them as they are pre-printed and they don't even have to sign their names. There's also that element of 'brag fest' about them.
I realize they are great for buy moms. I personally like to take the time to individually write each card and enclose a newsletter.
What are your thoughts on photo cards?
Re: POLL: Photo cards
I like them and don't get the "brag fest" feel from the ones I get. Maybe I'm just happy they remember me and DH?
We're definitely doing them for next year with our little one!
I like them! They are so much more personal.
There are wire photo holders that hold photo cards. I see a LOT of holiday ones at Christmas (star, tree, etc.). There is one at Pier1 that is just a long "tree" (just a long pole with places for the photos).
Also, Pottery Barn Teens has photo holders in the shape of an initial (like a J if your last name is Jones).
Or you can just put them in a basket.
This is one example - - but they have other choices at Pier1 too! Including a Santa.
I actually make my own photocards. This year, I had 2 wedding pictures (our first kiss and cutting the cake) and it said "Thanks Santa, but I already got everything I wanted! Love, J and J"
I also hand made every single envelope. So, maybe more work goes into to them than you think.

I don't mind them, but I agree most are impersonal. They're like a mass mailing to me, all pre-printed, all the same, just go to different households. So if the person takes the time to write something on it, that goes a long way with me.
I personally stick to the normal card giving and always write a little note inside, people seem to really appreciate that. Sometimes I include a photo or two inside as well for people who I know would like to receive them.

I like them too. It's nice to see friends/family that we don't get to visit with very often...
I appreciate the effort of signing a card but I think the picture cards are more interesting to get..but to each his own!
I prefer photo cards over the other options. I'd rather "see" family or friends as opposed to an ugly card with a picture of a Christmas tree or the star of Bethlehem (sp?)
I started sending out photo cards last year and will repeat yearly.
Don't worry, I'm working on it.
Get it on!
I like photo cards, but I have to say that I think sending out pictures of your kids is just as braggy as sending out pictures of yourself.
Photo cards are cute. I like them.
Most people don't write much in their cards anyway.
I am happy to get any kind of card at all.
I think what you might consider is the time, and expense of actually sending a personalized photo card. Maybe you would appreciate them a little more than you apparently do.
I think they are a nice way of sending a holiday greeting. There are photo cards that are standable. The cost is considerably more, and most of the messages have to be created by the sender. They can also be created for a personalized signature or a pre-printed signature.
some people can't have kids. should we also not be allowed to have photo christmas cards?
I like photo cards. Sometimes, it's the only time we get photos of some people and their growing families, despite asking throughout the year. I love photos in general.
My family and I were talking about it last week and we actually find newsletters to be more of a "brag-fest". Those who send them (that we know personally) are always appearance driven over-achievers who appear to merely want credit for their accomplishments throughout the year. A greeting card should be a sentiment of thoughtfulness and affection for the recipient, not a play-by-play of the sender's own life. That's my personal feeling on the matter.
