Seriously. She called me about 90 minutes ago, complaining that I don't call her enough and that most daughters call their moms more than once a year.
Have I mentioned that MH and I are going to my parents' house for Christmas Eve dinner tonight from like 4:30/5 until midnight (and then driving 45 minutes back home to L-A)? And that I had my parents (as well as my sister's family and 2 neighbours) over for a brunch on Sunday-- to which my parents were an hour later than originally planned? And that after that brunch, I spoke to my mom via email 3 times?
She also told me that I didn't ask her if she needed help or what time I need to come over. a) When you invite people over, it's customary to tell them when things are starting-- not make them contact you to find out; b) I asked my sister what time she was getting over there, so I didn't need to ask my mom; and c) my sister isn't getting there until a good 2 hours after I was planning on coming over (this is not a new thing, as she has to visit her in-laws after church first), so I knew I'd be over in plenty of time to help.
If we tell each other everything over the phone and email, what the heck will we have left to talk about tonight? Not to mention, I can't imagine how exciting the conversation would be since all I have left to talk about is random minutiae:
Me: Hi, Mom. Just calling to say hi. What's up?
Mom: Oh I'm busy baking the buche de noel with your sister [because why would I invite you to do any baking since you never bake anything].
Me: Nice. How's it coming?
Mom: It's coming. Alle is fantastic at making the meringue mushrooms.
Me: Awesome. She is pretty handy in the kitchen.
Mom: So what are you doing?
Me: Well, I cleaned the oven this morning, finished wrapping a couple presents, made a lemon meringue pie from scratch for MH's mom, and now I'm printing out the guidelines and syllabus for my next nursing rotation that starts January 3rd.
Wow. Could that be more scintillating? I can't wait until I get there tonight to talk about how I can't lose weight because I know nothing about anything fitness or medical-related because I don't have my mom's law degree-- just played sports every day of my life since childhood, including college wrestling and premier-level rugby all over the country, and am one semester away from my nursing degree.
Ugh. I WAS excited for tonight's family GTG. Now, not so much...

Wow... that's all I've got. Just, wow!
Try to enjoy tonight, as much as possible.
