Chest congestion

Re: Chest congestion

  • I sit in a really steamy bathroom and consume lots of hot, clear liquids (lemon tea, chicken broth). Get plenty of sleep and let your body fight off whatever it is, within reason, obviously. If you're hacking up a lung, can't breathe, wheezing, etc, get to a doctor.

  • Mucinex or a generic gustafsen expectorant.

  • You need to boost your immune system a bit.  Emergen-C is good for that!  A couple packets a day when you are under the weather will most certainly help move things along a bit faster.  Also, drink lots of water and stick to clear liquids as the pp said.  If you have a lot of post nasal drip causing the congestion, you might want to look into a nasal/sinus rinse as well.

  • LOVE my Neti Pot! It really helps cut down on the sinus pressure/congestion.

I don't like taking medication unless I'm really sick (when water, rest, soup, hot tea fail me), but if I have a nasty cough, I have no problem taking Mucinex DE.

  • This is on my list if anyone gets sick this winter, but I haven't tried it yet.
