Embarrassing moment at MIL's

DH and I decided to take our dogs with us to MILs today...they were doing good being around a small child and lots of excitement, only ate a little bit of wrapping paper on the floor, and only begged for a little food...and then one of them goes and pees on the rug in front of everyone while we were opening gifts....Thankfully, MIL was super nice about it...but I just feel so embarrassed! Embarrassed

Share your embarrassing moments at ILs to make me feel better?

PS: Merry Christmas!

Re: Embarrassing moment at MIL's

  • Did your MIL know ahead of time and give you her permission to bring your dogs to her house?
fiizzlee = vag ** fiizzle = peen ** Babies shouldn't be born wit thangs ** **They're called first luddz fo' a reason -- mo' is supposed ta come after. Yo Ass don't git a medal fo' marryin yo' prom date. Unless yo ass is imoan. I aint talkin' bout chicken n' gravy biatch. Then yo ass git a all-expenses paid cruise ta tha Mediterranean n' yo ass git ta hook up Jared Padalecki on tha flight over while bustin yo' jammies. But still no medal.
  • That seriously sucks.  I can understand how you would feel embarrassed but I'm interested to hear what you plan to do about it.

I imagine it'll be quite expensive to clean.  It is possible that the rug, carpet, flooring, whatever is under the rug is soaked with urine and will need a deep, professional clean, if not to be replaced.

I am crazy for animals but for these "accidents" I do NOT like when people bring their pets to my house. It might bother my SIL to know that her great danes are not allowed in my/DH's home since she and her friends all bring their great dames to each others' homes. Sweet and adorable does not mean accidents won't happen.

  • I slipped and fell hard on ice right before we left for the ILs yesterday.  They are only about a 5 minute drive so  was still in a lot of pain when we got there. My MIL is a nurse so she insisted on looking at my back and lower back since I landed on  my butt. She had to look down my jeans a bit to make sure there wasn't any swelling on my lower back I was wearing really skanky underwear. I was really embarrassed.

  • I don't have inlaws but my dad throws a HUGE annual Christmas party every year. One lady asked me when my baby was due. Um...I had him TWELVE years ago. I am 5ft 7 and 130 pounds. Apparently, I was wearing a very unflattering shirt. This is what I am telling myself anyway! Hmph!

  • did you have permission to bring the dog before hand? I hate when people show up with their pets. Because pets generally pee every few hours, and in strange places they're more likely to have accidents.

SO SINGS MY SOUL *WHAM!* MY SAVIOR GOD TO THEE *WHAM!* HOW GREAT THOU ART *WHAM!* HOW GREAT THOU ART *WHAM!*

You are a couple inches  taller and a few pounds lighter than I am.  It MUST have been an unflattering shirt.

Merry Christmas to you too Hmm

Of course they were invited.  My MIL has dog-sat for us before at her house.  I would never impose dogs upon people unexpectedly.

Yours is a cautionary tale...Definitely keeping my cute panties at home when I next visit the ILs...You just never know!  Hope your butt is not bruised today!

The sad thing is, it's been my favorite sweater for over three years and I wear it ALL the time. Eek! I am still gonna wear the damn thing. Perhaps with a belt LOL.

I'm glad you'll still wear your favorite sweater.  Don't people know how rude it is to ask if you're pregnant?  It's like asking a woman how old she is. (At least, I think both of those things are rude)

To be clear, my question was not whether or not the dogs were invited.  My question was what your plans are to ensure that the rug and flooring is properly cleaned.  My point was that urine soaks through rugs to the flooring underneath.  It could continue to stink unless it is thoroughly cleaned.  So I'm wondering if you manged to get over your embarrassment long enough to think about what mess your MIL may have been left to deal with and, if necessary, whether you were taking care of it.

BTW, I'm Jewish.  Merry Christmas to you.

Ha! She did that too. (I am 35 but look way younger. Go genes!) tsked tsked when I said I am primarily a mother but am getting my first book published soon, and then asked me how I felt about my father being gay (he "came out" 9 yrs after my mother died and I couldn't be more thrilled to see him happy). Um..ok. I then walked away and went and talked to my ex-fiancees wife, which was CONSIDERABLY less awkward, and we giggled over the pregnant comment.  Then we both went downstairs and hung out with the kids who were watching movies.

My dad's parties always end up leaving me with weird stories to tell. I think I am done complaining now LOL.

This seems like a very snarky answer. Dog urine doesn't stink like cat urine, and since they saw it happen, I would guess that they were able to blot it up before it went anywhere but the carpet, so it did not have time to soak through to anything else. Why would you assume that the OP would witness her dog peeing and not do anything about it?

Because some people like being snatchy.  I agree with you.  It's a little dog pee - you spray it with an enzymatic cleaner, blot it, and get on your way.

  • I stand corrected.  Dog pee doesn't smell like cat urine. Apologies for sounding snarky.
  • the first christmas dh and i were together occurred about 6 months after we first started dating (so we were girlfriend and boyfriend at the time).  it was the first time i'd met any of his family, except his mom, who i had met previously.  we drove the 13 hours up to the inlaw's house to spend a couple of days, and i got sick as a dog about 4 hours after we arrived.  i spent the next several days either prostrate in a bed or running to the bathroom with the 24 hours flu.  when i felt 1/2 way decent, we drove home.  dh called up there when we got home, and apparently, i had passed my sickness along to 3 other of his family members.  i'm sure they were all commenting on what a jewel i was since that was the first time they'd ever met me.  6 years later, it's funny, but it was embarrassing at the time.

Are you for real? The dog peed one time and it was cleaned up immediately. Obviously OP feels bad about it, geesh.
