how long are homemade Tamales good for?

We received some homemade ones from our friend's Mexican housekeeper...so they are totally authentic Mexican, though I don't know anything about the recipe.

They were given to us in a gallon size ziploc bag and there are 2 flavors: green chili & cheese and meat & red pepper.

Any ideas on how long they are good for in the fridge?  They were given to us on Wednesday last week.

Re: how long are homemade Tamales good for?

  • You can keep cooked tamales in the fridge for up to 5 days and then freeze them for up to 6 months.

To reheat from the fridge, steam for about 10 minutes and if frozen, steam for about 25-30 minutes.
  • I got homemade meat and cheese tamales from my sister. I left some behind in the fridge for an out-of-town trip and returned two weeks later. Not wanting to toss them away, I checked and found them still smelling good and fresh and microwaved them for 2 mins and tasted the same as the day I got them! So I think your tamales are safe for at least a couple of weeks!
