  • Every single time DH is sick, he swears up and down he's dying.  Anymore, I just ask if his life insurance is paid up.

  • BAAHAHAHAHA.  Probably likely, yes.

I'm stubborn and stoic like my mom and will go to work sick as a dog just because I grew up with a very nurturing mom who just happened to end up fostering a "suck it up" kind of mentality since that's the one I always saw her have.  I just take my sick misery and quietly deal with it on my own.

M will start to have the sniffles and maybe a scratchy throat and all of a sudden "{sniffle sniffle} I'm so sick."  I've gone to school with the stomach flu, pink eye, strep, all kinds of fun things and just sucked it up.  lol...men.  They have no clue what girls go through.  Can you imagine them with periods and cramps???  hahahaha.

  • I worked at the bank for 2.5 years and never actually called in sick but I did leave early twice. Once for food poisoning and once from morning sickness. If I didn't have a job that only had public restrooms I probably would have stayed both times since neither was contageous... but having to throw up in the walmart bathroom is about the grossest thing ever.

This sounds JUST like me & J!  Except add in "I'm going to leave work" and "I think I'll go to the doctor" after the "I'm so sick" for him. Like REALLY, it's THAT bad?!?  Pft!

Now, I'm not one to go into work if I KNOW I have something contagious, b/c that's just wrong, but I'm very very much a suck-it-upper otherwise. :)

Yeah unfortunately DH whines a bit but never really wants to go to the doctor.  He loves his OTC stuff.

And the only reason I used to go into work with strep, pink eye, etc. is because with working in a day care, if you wake up sick and can't find a sub to cover you, you HAVE to go.  That kind of stinks, especially given how contagious pink eye is.  But it wasn't like I couldn't work or was whiny all day because of it.  But I just grew up with a mom who took super care of me but for herself, it was like "Sure I'm puking my guts out and can't stand up straight because of it, but that doesn't mean I can't go to work, hit the grocery store, come home and make dinner, maybe clean out the attic, and run a half marathon afterward."  My mom would NOT sit down and while I'm not super tough as nails like her, I still try to suck it up best I can.

Ari ~ I'm so glad you said this.  I didn't know this and will be sure to ask the next time we are looking at daycare centers.  I do not want a teacher watching my child when they know they have something contagious.

  • Ari - your mom sounds like mine.  Only...strep throat was the only thing that would put her on the couch for a day and a half.  It still does.  That's when we KNEW mom was really sick, she didn't get off the couch - well, that and, dad had to do our hair for school Crying
