Stupid NFL

I'm mad at the NFL right now because of this stupid Tuesday Night Football Game (it's weird) Let me explain and some may have already thought of this:

I understand Michael Vick is playing well and the NFL wants sell that sizzle as much as possible, however, I blame them 100% of why the Eagles/Vikings need to play a Tuesday night game.

1. The game was pushed back to a Sunday night game because of the QB skills. If the game was at the original time  there would have been no time to postone.

2. Now that the game is on Tuesday night that gives both teams a very short amount of time to recover (win, lose or draw). I don't know about the Vikings but for Sunday they pushed the Eagles-Dallas game back until 4:15. Thanks for that three hours!

I know the NFL is a business but for some reason this really grinds my gears. I'm sure the Eagles will win both games but I'm annoyed!

(P.S Please keep Vick chatter strictly on the game in this thread)

Rant over!

Re: Stupid NFL

  • I just worry about what kind of precedent this sets.  Football no longer to be played in snow?  Rain?  Partly cloudy??  No open-air stadiums above the equator??

  • That too! During the 2014 Super Bowl in NJ what will they do if it snows? Postpone the Superbowl?

I thought football players were supposed to be big, tough men? I think the league wants to protect their investments (ie players) and are starting to seriously cut into the integrity of the game!

I thought it had less to do with protecting the players and more to do with protecting their pocketbooks.  I think the game could have still been played.... in front of a crowd of about thirty fans!!  I think the league recognized that not many fans would make the journey to the stadium in blizzard conditions, and they'd be out tons of money.

Just my opinion, though.  I agree that it's really a frustrating situation for both teams no matter what the outcome of the game is.

My last response was based on your response. I reformatted so it was all one thought- I didn't' exactly make that clear.  I was agreeing with you.

  • Just my thoughts:

I don't if it's the NFL or NBC that chooses who plays the Sun. night game.  Maybe NBC saw the matchup & at the time thought that would be the game they'd want to have on air (since sometimes the Sun. night/Mon. night matchups I could see as not really much of a matchup).

As for the weather: I know that Philly didn't get the amount expected, but if they did get what say what NYC or NJ got, you have to think of not just the fans, but also all the people that work at the stadium & you can't risk their lives.  Of course now hindsight is always 20/20, but if you did get the 20 inches like some of the places did get & they did play the game, then people would be complaining say how dare the NFL not postpone the game rather than risk the lives of people to come watch a game/go to work.  Unfortunately on this one the NFL can't win for lose.

  • I honestly don't blame the NFL for postponing the game on Sunday.  The weather forecast was not very good.   Why risk the lives of not only the players, but workers, fans, etc that would have to travel to and from the game.     They may have been able to get there OK but gettting home would have been totally different.

The NJ Devils played on Sunday night and after the game two players got stranded for 8 hours in their car on the highway because it got so bad, and the Mapleleafs bus got stranded for hours after the game trying to leave.   IMO, that game should have been postponed too, why put the players and I am sure others that were not reported in those dangerous situations.

Who cares about the money, rest time between games, etc...the safety of all those involved should come first!

Should is the key word but it doesn't always come first.Every team owner cares about money. It was one of those situations they were 'damned if you do, and damned if you don't'. I agree with you about the postponement but the NFL deeply cares about their bottom line and thinking anything different is a mistake.

One example being, they added two more games onto their regular schedule, they have 18 games to play each season. At the end of a 16 game season all players (O and D) are worn-out, nursing injuries, and may have suffered a concussion or two. What do you think will happen at 18 games? When that fatigue sets in that leads to more mistakes eventually leading to mroe serious injuries on the field. To be fair, they should have two bye weeks from this point on. Did they add these games because these boys love to play so much? No, it's about money.

  • With all due respect, these guys are professionals getting paid big bucks to play..they can handle the 2 extra games!  And that is coming from somebody that works in the sports field with athletes on a regular basis.    With all these inflated, ridiculous salaries, the teams need the money to pay them!

Of course it is about the money...but in this situation where the game was postponed it was about the safety of the fans, players, employees etc.   And I thought that was what this post was about!

  • All I'm saying is safety is only a portion of the reason for the postponement and money is also a factor. Were both in agreement but making different points! I can't get offended because you said "with all due respect" (Ricky Bobby) Smile

I also have a strong background of working in the sports field (career related not just a passionate fan) I think the way sports player, celebs, and people of that nature are paid and treated is a whole other social issue.

I just LOL-ed at this.  Such an under-rated movie!  I quote it pretty often.  ("What did that do?!  Did that blow your mind??  THAT. JUST. HAPPENED!")

I love the commercials towards the end of the movie "There's a 98% chance you will die- prevent it with XXX brand"

"I'm all hopped up on Mt Dew! I'll jump on you like a spider monkey old man!"
