Mind you, I never had one (I made them for Dan's office), but here are my thoughts.
Wicked easy to make, but damn, they are not easy to work with after they're cooked. I put them in paper lined muffin tins, baked for 14 minutes (11 minutes was way too short, they were still all batter), took them out and immediately ran a knife along the edges. PAIN.IN.THE.ASS! They were falling apart right away. So, I waited about 10 minutes and tried again. Crapola!
I ended up leaving them in the paper liners and sent them in with Dan. Figured they can eat them like a cupcake. He said they were delicious, but people were having a terrible time getting them out of the paper. A few people abandoned the effort.
Overall, kind of disappointing!
Oh, and I used the mint Oreos and my own tried and true scratch brownie recipe.
Re: My review of the brownie covered Oreos
I'm not sure why everyone is having a hard time getting them out.
I sprayed the sh!t out of my pan with Pam (ha!) and waited about 5 min. after they came out and then just ran a VERY sharp nice and they popped right out! i only lost a half of one, which Paul and I ate.
I made them with golden, regular, and mint. Mint were def. my fave!
I don't understand the problem either. I made them again on Christmas Eve and each one came out perfect. I have non-stick muffin pans, I sprayed them lightly with Pam. I dipped each oreo in the batter, flipped with a spoon to make sure the entire oreo was covered then placed in muffin pan with the spoon. Cooked 2.5 dozen all at the same time for 15 minutes. Let cool for about 2 minutes and used a butter knive around the edges and let cool completely on a dry rack. I didn't ice them this time, left them alone and I thought they were better that way.
Last time, I used Duncan Hines batter with regular oreos and this time I used Betty Crocker batter and PriceRite brand oreos. I'm still eating them and they are still awesome!!
I used the liners and noticed that if you let them cool for like 10 mins, no longer...in the liner and then peeled the paper off, they came out fine. If you tried to take the liners off before about 10 mins of cooling time they fall apart. I liked them, but not a huge fan. I did both mint and regular oreos, and I think I like the mint better, but a lot of my christmas guests didn't like them at all.
hmmmm. I had no problems getting them out of the pans at all, I just sprayed with Pam (and not a huge amount), ran a butter knife around them as soon as they came out, and popped them out a few minutes later using a big spoon.
Sorry you had a rough time with them Pam! I have mint ones to make at some point, not sure when given my hard core return to health soon.
