How was your Christmas?

Hello everyone and Merry Christmas!  I'm back from the Frozen North, i.e. Ithaca, NY where we spent the holidays with my ILs.  How was your Christmas?  Did you receive any green-related items?  I got canning jars and the Ithaca Farmer's Market Cookbook, which I just adore.  I've earmarked so many pages already!

  • My sister bought us a soda stream.  I haven't tried it yet, but am really excited!

  • I got a little tea infuser that I can take to work so I can bring in my own organic/fair trade loose leaf tea!

I was able to have about 75% of the gifts I gave out be eco-friendly. I was pretty excited about that!

I love cookbooks, especially ones with local recipes!

My mom gave me a gorgeous tablecloth and matching napkins from Williams Sonoma.

Tired after a long morning of hiking and swimming.
  • I got a yoga mat with a lifetime warranty which hopefully means I will never have to buy another yoga mat ever again (Manduka if anyone is curious).

My mom also gave me a KK water bottle (one of mine got stolen.  I hope that thug is reusing it every freaking day!)

My sis knitted fake food for my kids from scrap yarn.

  • I got the Super Natural Cooking by Heidi Swanson. Very excited to use it and figure out how the hell to cook millet...

  • I didn't get anything green-related :( No one quite understands my newfound way of thinking.

I did buy a Cubs reusable bag for dh's cousin - he's a huge Cubs fan- but I was sick when the family got together so I wasn't there to give it to him. Dh said he loved it and then mil told me that dh told all the family about how I use reusable bags now - of course he had to throw in calling me his "hippie wife" but it's ok because I think he now means that in a good way :P

And I managed to save a lot of wrapping items this year to reuse them - I picked up the wrapping at my parent's house so I kept out all the tissue paper I could find to reuse, I kept a lot of the bags too (my family is awesome about reusing gift bags) and put the boxes back into my mom's wrapping storage containers so she could use them again. Plus I took all of our gifts to both my parent's and my inlaw's houses in my reusable bags so we were able to just bring our gifts home in those and turn down the plastic bags we were offered.

  • I got a new stainless steel water bottle.  That was really the only green gift I received.

We gave some green gifts though.  My dad absolutely loves the Sodastream, and we got my SIL a book about edible gardening.
