Please help a Canadian visiting Laguna Beach

Hi Ladies,

Our family is taking our first family vacation-my kids are 2 and 4 - and we are planning on coming to laguna Jan 9-Feb 12.

We are just in the process of securing our rental home and have been hearing about the mudslides, rain, etc.  I can't seem to get a clear/straight answer from our rental owner and I'm not finding much online about the damage. She said the rental house is fine-untouched by the storm but we don't know about the rest of the village.

So, I am wondering, is everything in town, playgrounds, beaches pretty much cleaned up from the storms or should we investigate maybe staying somewhere else, like Huntington Beach?

Thank you so much, any information would be greatly appreciated!!

Also, if you had any recommendations of what to see/do/where to eat etc. I would be thankful!!

Re: Please help a Canadian visiting Laguna Beach

  • Hello,

I live in nearby Irvine, about 10 miles away. We did have a fairly severe weather system come through. In the Laguna area there were several dozen houses in the canyon areas that had to be temporarily evacuated but I don't think there was any major damage to any homes. Mostly there was concern during the actual storm itself that the amount of rainfall would cause flooding and mudslides. It looks like we have some smaller rain systems that will be moving through this week but it shouldn't be too much rain. The beaches are all open as far as I know, they probably don't look to good though, lots of drift wood and storm debris. I dont see any reason why you can't stay in Laguna Beach in general but if it sounds like your rental house is flaky you might want to consider something else.

As for things to do, I assume your taking the family to disneyland but you might want to check out Knot's Berry Farm as well. Irvine Great Park has a free balloon that you can ride and get a good look at the area. Lots of great shops and food locally there in Laguna. Also if you feel like a bit of a drive try the Getty Museum in LA off the 405. Crystal Cove state beach in laguna has some cool tide pools. Aquarium of the Pacific in long beach pretty neat.

Any way hope you have fun.

  • Don't worry, Laguna Beach is fine:) The rain was severe, but all is cleaned up and Laguna beach is by far the most beautiful beach city in the world. Don't stay any where else.
