KC info and restaurants

Hello! I am from St. Louis but my DH got me a getway to KC for Christmas.  We are staying at the Rapheal with a view of the Country Club Plaza lights!!!  I am so excited.  We can eat at the Rapheal or somewhere else.  Does anyone have any insight on this?  Also, anything to do in KC while we are there?  We won't be there that long, one night, possibly two?

Re: KC info and restaurants

  • Hello! Im a KC native and know the plaza well. For a romantic dinner you should try Starkers Reserve. Its an easy walk from the Raphael and a nice atmosphere with a great wine list. Every meal Ive had there has been supreme, its a bit pricey though. If your looking for something low key and casual Id suggest The Classic Cup Cafe especially for breakfast. There are also lots of chains if you want to stay cheap and safe. For late night and drinks I suggest Tom Fooleries and Brio for their reverse happy hours. Brio has an upstairs lounge with comfy couches and a fire place! Have fun!!!
  • Thank you.  What is a reverse happy hour?  Is The Classic Cup Cafe on the Plaza?
  • Welcome to KC! Reverse happy hour is when they have drink/appetizer specials later at night til closing, The Classic Cup is on the Plaza. Hope you have fun.

  • DH and I loved taking the Boulevard Brewery tour.  It fills up a bit in advance so you'll need to make reservations, but it's free and you get four free samples at the end.

Eating on the Plaza--I highly recommend Jack Stack.  I'm a big fan of their barbecue.  Walk around and do some window shopping, too!

The Nelson-Atkins art museum is a short walk away and has some interesting stuff usually.

DH really likes the World War I museum, but I've never been.  If you're into sports, the ESPN College Basketball Experience at the Sprint Center is fun, too.

  • Hi there. Yes, the classic cup cafe is on the plaza. Reverse happy hour is when a bar offers happy hour deals outside of the normal (4-6) happy hour times..Normally after midnight.
