nest centerpieces

I am having a baby shower and am using nests as centerpieces on long banquet tables.  All I have right now is the actual nest but need to add some height to them and something to put in them!  Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!

p.s the moss was not included in the purchase!

Re: nest centerpieces

  • Chunky candlesticks?  White ceramic ones might look nice depending on your scheme.  And the moss you can buy at a craft store for a couple dollars for a big bag.

  • I like Tarheels' suggestion of chunky candlesticks.

If you need one "main" centerpiece somwhere, maybe you can put a few nests hanging from Manzantina branches.  I like the idea shown here with notes written a little birdie papers.

Candied almonds look like eggs. You can do this.  Or you can put the eggs inside a little mesh baggie on top of the nest.

    Hope this helps!

  • We did a nest themed baby shower a few years ago.  We used craft nests as the centerpieces on long tables over a burlap runner.  We picked up simple burlap and cut in into 12 in wide runners by 10 ft (We had borrowed large tables and simple off white tablecloths from the church).  We then placed craft nests at 1 foot intervals with hand made glycerin soaps in pink, yellow green and blue.  We used a baby-powder scent for the soaps. We made the soaps in plastic Easter egg halves and then stuck the halves together with a little hot glycerin. Ehow has the soap making instructions.  We also picked up a dozen carnations in pink and blue and scattered the petals over the nests and runners.  The egg soaps were our favors.  We made enough soap for each guest to take home three soaps in their choice of colors.

The favors seemed to be a hit since our aunts were fighting over the yellow ones to match their kitchen/bathroom respectively.   They were not hard to make but it did take the four of us most of a Saturday to put the favors together.   Be sure to tell your guests if you individually wrap the soaps in saran wrap.  One cousin had a difficult time using the soaps because she did not take the saran wrap off.

  • I was browsing one of the entertaining blogs and I came across this and thought of you.  Maybe you and people you know already have the cake platers?
