What to do with wooden clementine boxes?

In the winter I buy a lot of clementine oranges, but I never know what to do with those small wooden boxes they come in. I feel bad throwing them out, but is wood actually recyclable? I live in an apartment in the city, so it's not like I could just go throw them in the woods and hope they decompose either.

I love those boxes, they are so cute!  I use them to store gardening materials, books, or mail. You could also put a plastic container inside (maybe a takeout box or tupperware), poke holes in the bottom, and use it as a planter.

Do you have a fireplace? We break ours up and use them to start fires.

I store our toilet paper rolls in them! They are also handy for my DD's art supplies.
