Recipe to share: spiced plum pie

This is my tweaking of a recipe I got from my aunt a while back.  SO GOOD!  A great winter dessert.

1 cup sugar or Splenda 1 tbsp cinnamon 2 tbsp cornstarch 1 tsp finely grated orange or clementine peel 1/2 tsp orange extract 1 tsp ground cardamom 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg 1/4 tsp ground cloves 2 1/2 pounds plums, peeled, halved, pitted & cut into think wedges  1 cup finely ground walnuts

Combine all ingredients into large bowl & mix well.

(Note: I buy green cardamom in pods from the Indian grocer & grind it fresh.  I think it tastes better)

For crust, I used this recipe:

http://www.pieaday.com/2009/Crusts/single_double_crust.html

(I use 1 cup whole wheat flour & 2 cup regular flour instead)

Bake pie 30 minutes. Tent pie loosely with foil to prevent overbrowning. Continue to bake until filling bubbles thickly through slits, about 1 hour longer. Cool completely on rack.

Serve warm (you can nuke it in the microwave) with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
