UP of MI Elopement?

Hello -- I tried to post this on theknot but there is something wrong with the site right now that won't let me!

I'm planning to get married this summer in the UP of Michigan, and we want a really simple elopement.  Anyone know of any place that we could look into?  We are just getting started in this process, and aren't from the area but love it up there.

Thanks!!!

Re: UP of MI Elopement?

  • It seems that eloping only requires someone (minister, judge, etc) to marry you.  What specifically are you looking for?
Willa 4.6.06 and Henry 10.18.08 Camp Sinki
  • Google weddings in the UP and you will come across some sites.

    Here is one

I'm guessing you might be able to find a bed and breakfast somewhere up there that might have a wedding package. Some places will have a garden or parlor that can hold small weddings. They can even provide a small boquet, cake, toast, etc.

there are two B&B sites - I think it is bbonline.com  and laketolake.com or something like that.

I could check the Chamber or Commerce sites or CVB sites for the area you want. What are are you looking at?

  • Sorry for not being more specific - we'd love to just find a beautiful place in northern/UP of Michigan to elope, probably outside.  I live in Oklahoma, but go up there for work each summer, but only to Petoskey.  I've looked at some B&B's online, but nothing has jumped out at me yet!
  • I don't know if this helps at all, but having a wedding at the tahquamenon falls would be nice.  You could give them a call and see if they can suggest places that do outdoor weddings

I LOVE Petoskey. There are several nice B&B up there. Or check the Traverse Bay area at the wineries. There are some really pretty places in that area.  Good luck!

  • I'm not very familiar with the UP, but you might want to add Mackinac Island to your list of places to check out.  I think you could have a beautiful outdoor wedding there.
  • I forgot to mention that my wedding photography has since moved "up north" and it looks like from his website that he focus on Northern Michigan weddings, esp Mackinaw Island.  He has links to various Northern Michigan location on his site. It might also be worth to look through his blog for location ideas.

I'm thinking if you got married on a weekday and was close to where he lives, you probably could get a good deal from him.
