Hey all! I just got an iPad for my birthday, and I'm a little overwhelmed by all of the case options. I know that I want something that can convert to a stand. Should I get something that protects the screen? TIA for any suggestions.
Re: Recommend your iPad case
I just got my iPad for Christmas (good DH!) and order the Otterbox defender case. It just came in the mail from Amazon today, but I like that the hard shell surrounds both the front and the back (as well as the sides), uses clips to hold the iPad in place (instead of elastic), and converts the cover to the base of the stand. It was $50, which put it on par with the other cases I was looking at. The multiple layers of protection were a big draw for me.

I got the black Ipad case from apple, it converts to a stand but isn't all that sturdy (ie it falls over a lot). One issue I found that bothers me is that it doesn't fit in the ipad charging base if I have it in the case... who wants to take the ipad out of the case every time they want to charge it???? if anyone finds a case that does both (stands and fits in the base) let me know!!!
I also got the screen protector put on at best buy... worth every cent! but get the non-shiny one. mine is too shiny in the sun!
FYI: It isn't too clear, so I wanted to point it out. The otterbox comes with a screen protector. My husband put it on and said it was a PIA, but it worked out fine and I didn't have to spend more to get one.
I just have the original Apple case. I wanted a case that wraps all the way around and that stays on while I'm using the iPad. I love the keyboard angle feature of the Apple case, so that will be a major feature for me if I ever replace it. However, I've never been able to get the Apple case to actually stand up when I want to watch video, but after browsing case and stand reviews on Amazon, I ended up with a great solution:
a basic bookstore/collectible display stand:

It works great for reading and video! And at 2 for $4.50, the price can't be beat! (I gave the other one to my dad for his Kindle.)
I have an InvisibleShield screen protector, and I love it. It took me a little while to get used to the texture, but now I don't even notice it, and it really makes me feel more comfortable when using it. In the month or so before I got it, I did manage to get a small scratch on the screen (maybe from my rings), so the screen protector brings a lot of peace of mind. I bought it on Amazon, but I paid the guy at one of the InvisibleShield mall kiosks to put it on, so I wouldn't have to fuss with it.

Do you have it? I'm very interested to know what you think!
I was really thinking of ordering it from ThinkGeek a month ago (on sale for $25), but I didn't. I thought it looked pretty good, but I decided to wait a while and see what else comes out.
