My grocery bill for that menu below
$157.39 for two days of food. That doesn't include $160.48 for alcohol. I skipped flowers to help with the budget...however much that $40 is worth in the big picture lol. Entertaining is so expensive. I think potluck's the only way to truly entertain for cheap.
And, OMG, prosciutto is expensive! $6 for 3 ounces! I wiki'd it and it's supposedly quite similar to the process used to make Virginia ham, so I went and got myself 1 lb of Virginia ham for $6 :P Since it's going to be toasted with parmesan cheese and pepper on rye toasts, I figure ham's just as good.
Re: My grocery bill for that menu below
I know... just spent 120.00 at the grocery for this weekend - and I'm not feeding 50pp meals like you are.

I'm actually impressed. I just spent $100 for two of us for the weekend, and that really wasn't all of our meals. I don't understand how I spend so much money at the grocery store!
Have fun at all of your parties!
Entertaining IS expensive. I try to have a party each season and DH is getting tired of the expense. Our next party is going to be a chili cookoff to defray some costs.
It seems to me like appetizer stuff adds up fast and you don't feel like you're getting much food out of it. So many apps have shrimp, crab, gourmet cheese and meats and stuff like truffle oil. I know prosciutto and pancetta are expensive but I always get sticker shock.
Anyway, it looks like you did pretty good and foregoing flowers was probably a good decision.

Oh, and good call on substituting Va ham for the proscuitto! I find crazy expensive ingredients like that only worth buying for things where they really shine -- like melon wrapped in proscuitto, etc. Under cheese on a sandwich? No way!
And maybe this is petty of me, but it would drive me up a wall to watch BIL hovering over the buffet, horking down $25 worth of proscuitto apps like they were ripple chips from Costco.
