Apparently my dh can't be left home alone
We have a 4 slice pop up toaster. He was home alone yesterday and as part of his lunch he wanted to heat up some tortillas (so he could fill them with burrito mixture). He put the toaster levers all the way down and then put tortillas on top of the toaster (not in the toaster...which would have bad too). Apparently the tortillas ended up burning and the kitchen filled with smoke. When I asked him why he did it that way instead of using the microwave, oven or stove, he said he thought it would be a quick way to heat them up.

Re: Apparently my dh can't be left home alone
I'm sorry but hahaha! I laugh only because our dog recently "tried to make toast" while we were gone and DH came home to our kitchen filled with smoke. She had tipped over the toaster, turned it on and the crumbs inside smoldered. Now we keep telling her if she wants to use the toaster she needs to ask for help.
Please understand at the time neither DH or I found it funny at all, it was quite scary, but we now keep our new toaster unplugged in the corner of the countertops where Indi shouldn't be able to reach.
Perhaps you should unplug your toaster when your not at home to prevent your DH from having such accidents...worked like a charm with Indi.
DH and I had a roommate (and one of DH bffs from high school) who was accustom to making garlic toast in his parents' toaster oven. We had a slice toaster.
We started to notice that everything we toasted had a hint of garlic. After a few weeks we discovered why.
He would put the garlic power and butter on the bread and then put it in the toaster. It had never occurred to him to toast plain bread and then dress the way he wanted.
This man is walking around today with a master's degree in higher education.
