For those who have a SodaStream...
I was reading the label on my soda mixes and it has Splenda in it. I wondered why it was only 30 calories a serving. I know their Essence flavoring is unsweetened. I do not like artifical sweenters and was wondering if any of you found sugar only flavoring from another company?
Re: For those who have a SodaStream...
I know they have water flavor but I was looking for soda mixes sans splenda. I said Essence instead of Mywater. Monin looks like flavored syrups and not soda syrups or maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?
ETA: I see they have the naturals but I want something that equals coke or dr. pepper. Not a fruit flavor. KWIM? The only real "soda" flavor is their lemon-lime.
This is the only reason SodaStream was not at the top of my Christmas list this year.
Can you use any syrup? Torani has a root beer flavor.
It looks like there is a non-diet, HFCS-free cola syrup from SS: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002T0GXNC/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B002T0IHVI&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=022K36R9E9P7JQDXQE1Q
(sorry, can't hyperlink from chrome). Another one i found is "all natural" http://www.naturesflavors.com/product_info.php?cPath=63&products_id=4482
Best sound ever: baby's heartbeat! (Heard @ 10w1d)
I assume you can use any syrup since the machine only carbonates the water and you do the rest.
The first one from SS is a sugar/Splenda blend and I have that one. The second one looks promising (bonus points for organic!) and I'll be looking into that.
Thanks, girls!!!
They do have syrup flavors that are copies of real sodas out there that are not diet and are HFCS free. I believe that their Dr. Pepper copy is called Tom's or something.
When we got our SS it came w/ 12 samples- some were diet, some were not diet and were HFCS-free. I believe we got samples of their version of Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew and Red Bull in non-diet...
All of SS are now HFCS if I am not mistaken. But, even the non-diet drinks contain Splenda. Coke = cola and pete's choice = Dr. Pepper. We ordered no diet drinks since I do not like artifical sweeteners.
The ingredient list for cola/coke is sugar, water, caramel coloring, phosphoric acid, natural flavor, acesulfame potassium, SUCRALOSE (Splenda brand), sodium citrate, caffeine.
I have cola, pete's choice, rootbeer, cream soda, and lemon-lime and they all have Sucralose in the ingredients. The only samples I got that did not have splenda/sucralose is mywater essence.
SodaStream has natural sodas that use Sugar. I've got 5 containers sitting in my kitchen as we speak and I'm looking at the label and it clearly says "Sugar"... and no Splenda.
I also asked SS about the use of Splenda in their regular mixes and they said very, very little is used (you can tell by how low on the ingredients list it is) and is used to add flavor and to help increase the shelf life of the mixes once they are opened. I have the natural flavors like I said and, honestly, they do have less flavor than the regular mixes, though they are still very, very good!
i have these...delicious! i esp love the root beer.
