Do you send an invite to someone who you know will not attend a shower?

For example, a friend who is out of the country on a mission trip or a friend/relative who lives across the country?

 I guess I am assuming that the family member is not going to come for a 2 hour shower just for the weekend.

What should I do?

I would send one anyways. My aunt & my grandma drove 4 hours to come to my bridal shower. You never know... they may surprise you.

That's pretty personal and would depend on your relationship with the person. Are you close enough with the person that they would be offended by not receiving an invite, even though they know they can't attend, or would it look gift grabby? If you are really that close with them, go ahead and send the invite.

I'd say it depends on the relationship going the other way...  If you're close with them, they likely totally understand saving $3 on the invitation.  If it's someone like a grandmother who'll save the invite, send it.  The person on the mission trip, I wouldn't unless you think they'd like to receive the mail.

If it's someone I'd invite when living in the same town, they get an invite even if I know they can't make it.

Unless the person has said "I will not be able to make it", I would definitely send it. Even then, depending on the relationship with the honoree, I might send it.  If you are throwing the shower for someone and they included the person on the guest list, then DEFINITELY send it, no matter what.
