Anyone made giant cupcakes?

Hey ladies,

I'm thinking of making a giant cupcake for my son's 1st birthday to use as his cake then making regular sized cupcakes for everyone else.

I've found a couple different pans - a Wilton pan metal pan and a silicone pan. Has anyone used one or the other of these? Any tips?

Thanks!

Re: Anyone made giant cupcakes?

  • I have the Wilton (metal) one.  The only issue I have had with it is one side bakes faster than the other (the "top") b/c the bottom part is much larger than the top.  So, When you do go to bake it, only fill the batter in one side, then bake remove and fill the other side and so on.  Does that make sense?
  • I don't have experience with the cupcake pans, but in general I hate silicone for baking.  I have a bundt pan and loaf pan and neither seem to hold the right shape.  I'd go metal all of the way.

You mean bake one side at a time right?

Thanks! What's the right amount of batter to use in each side? I've been reading some reviews and that seems to be a problem people have.

  • I filled a little more than half way for each side.  After it's done baking, it might have a rounded top, I just level that off.  GL!
  • I have the Wilton. I don't bake one at a time. Instead, I put in the base first-I think 15-20 minutes, then I fill the top and bake them both together the rest of the time. I've used only box mix for this effort and use 2 boxes. Mostly for the cake, then the remaining I just make small cupcakes.

Two months ago, I discovered this idea for the "paper liner" part of the cupcake. It was so easy, looked great and the children and adults alike LOVED it.
