Question on Picaboo Albums

For those who have ordered from Picaboo -- what style book did you choose? We are doing our parents albums through Picaboo but I'm not sure what style I want to do. I was thinking maybe modern or madison, only because I like the idea of the lay flat pages, but I also like the leather books as well. Just curious to see what others have ordered and what you thought of it if you got it already?

Re: Question on Picaboo Albums

  • We ordered our parents the Classic Custom 11x14 books and they turned out great! (Much nicer quality than the snapfish book I ordered for my FG).

We didn't do the lay-flat option (I believe it's $15 for the Classic Customs), but it's still easy to look at the pages regardless.

  • We did the Classic Custom in medium and large, the medium with reg. pages (grandparents) and the large with the lay flat (parents). They both turned out really nice, but I prefer the large with the lay flat personally.
  • Oh, so if you order the classic version you still have the option to upgrade to lay flat pages?? I didn't realize this. If so, nice! Then I can use the 20% off and free shipping offer :)

  • One word of warning on Lay Flat binding - I did one on My Publisher for DH of our honeymoon, and the Lay Flat binding cut off ~1/2" of the page in the middle, so some of my captions were cut of.  It may be something they've fixed (it was a brand new feature), but it doesn't hurt to ask the question of if it cuts any of your "canvas space" off.

My Publisher was great and immediately issued a credit to me so I could adjust and reprint and ship the replacement book for free.

That sounds really annoying. I used Picaboo for our parent albums, and the layout highlighted where the cut off would be.  I'm glad they had such great service, though.

We ordered the Classic Leather album for each of our parents.  It was fine - not super professional quality, but better than what I've seen from Shutterfly and the like.

  • Erica- would you say it's worth the additional money?

Also, do you think 8.5x11 size was okay?  Or if you hate the choice would you rather do 11x14>?

  • I just saw this post and we ordered a bunch of books from Picaboo so I thought Id share.  For ours we did the Ranch which comes with layflat standard and it turned out great.  For the Ranch and the Madison (we did for our parent-also layflat) the pages are 110# which makes a big difference compared to the classics 100#.  They are thick enough that they would be hard to tear and when you touch the pages your fingerprints go away.  The Madison had the pearl finish on the paper which looked very nice.  I have to say I liked both a lot, but wanted a plain leather cover for ours so i paid the extra cost.

For my aunts and my husbands grandfather we did the classic linen.  They too turned out nice and were better quality compared to snapfish ones.  The pages were thinner, like a regular photo thickness.  For me, paying the extra money for thicker and layflat pages for our album was worth it because we want it to last forever and not worry about pages getting torn.

Overall I thought Picaboo was easy to use and great quality.
