I agree! What good is making them "promise" they will return next year? I really think they need to take this kind of thing more seriously. And if they really "didn't know what they were doing was wrong" then the Program (AD/Coaching staff/boosters/etc) is at fault for not making that clear. Either way I feel like neither the players or the program is being properly punished.

Loves it!
GO BUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my word...the dropped passes...just ridiculous. Killer, really.
TI, IUIs, IVF = c/ps and BFNs
Damn.
It would have been such a different game if those players would have had to sit out tonight...
TI, IUIs, IVF = c/ps and BFNs
Agreed...believe it or not, I think they should have been suspended for this game too. The fact that they weren't makes NO sense to me.
And yet, I'm still relieved. Mostly because now my H will quit screaming at the damn TV. Go Bucks!

And yet, I'm still relieved that we won and am currently plotting how to make Dane Sanzenbacher my second husband. And now my H will quit screaming at the damn TV. Go Bucks!
OSU = still the most overrated team in America.....quite crying Pryor.....the sissy will probably sell his Sugar Bowl ring for another tattoo....
Lost a LOT of respect for Tressel, his five players SHOULD NOT BE PLAYING....
OSU=The No-Integrity University......buckeyes have always been a worthless nut....1-9 vs SEC in Bowl games.....go celebrate...you guys have a great record...
You know what, I am not happy about what those guys did and I bleed scarlet and gray...but, what went down with the NCAA was exactly the reason I changed my tune about those Pryor etc playing. It is time that the NCAA reaps what it sow's.
They want to dictate from a financial aspect then this is what you get, you get a punishment that isn't a punishment at the time of infraction but a punishment that saves the benjamins. Trust me, what should have been a violation in the fall is most certainly a violation today but when you deal with a governing body who overlooks the obvious for the sake of the revenue you aren't going to get a lot of integrity.
Am I mad they started, heck yes I am. Should they have sat, yes. The bottom line is that they didn't and there was nothing wrong with it from the standpoint of the NCAA and apparently that was all the institution needed to hear. I don't care what "plan" Tressel has in place to work these guys over for the violations, but I do know that any other coach in the nation would have done the same thing in starting these guys. The accountability is to benefactor's, alumni, and donations that pour into OSU, but again the same can be said of any University in the nation. The mighty dollar rules with a strong fist.
It was a victory on the field and as a fan I am overjoyed. The fact that it isn't a victory morally will weigh heavily on me for quite a while.
how is Florida this year bender
?
I gotta say, Go Bucks!
I don't agree with what those guys did, but Tressel is an awesome guy. He turned around a football program that had a lot worse going on than selling memorabilia. It just wasn't as big a deal back then.
my read shelf:
AND he made wearing sweater vests cool - H LOVES wearing sweater vests because Jim Tressel inspired him lol

We suspend our players immediately when they do something wrong.....even when it costs us a few wins....see Chris Rainey (our best offensive player), sat half the season, had to do community service, and even when that was done Urban still sat him for two additional weeks...that's how you do it, you suspend bad behavior immediately, not allow them to play in a bowl game and say 'we'll get you during the first 5 games next year'. Won't matter, Pryor won't come back his senior year, too much money at stake. Watch....
And while my Gators sucked this year, and did they ever suck, I can say that I'm excited about the next few years. If you look at Tebow's Junior year, we had Dan Mullen as our OC, we were unstoppable on offense. Beat OU for the BCS NC. The following year, Mullen leaves, and we have Steve Addazio as our OC. Our offensive roster remained the same, yet our numbers dropped significantly. Bottom line, Addazio is predictable, and needed to go.
Enter Will Mushcamp as head coach, a defensive guru. He brought in the Seattle Seahawks D Backs coach to be DC, and, I hate to say it (cause I can't stand him or ND), Charlie Weis to be our OC. If we can get a defense like Mushcamp ran at Auburn and Texas, and have a pro style offense (what Muschamp wants to run) run by Weis (OC for the Patriots during their SB runs, and turned around KC this year), we could be a very dangerous team in a few years.....very excited indeed....
I'm sure my opinion is biased because I'm a huge OSU fan....
I'm glad they weren't benched. I think it would be weird to penalize them spanning two seasons. Pick one season to punish them, and let that be that. I think they should be punished, and I'm fine with sitting them 5 games of next season. Or, if the NCAA had opted to make them sit the Bowl Game, that would have been fine too. But not both. That ruins 2 of 4 seasons the other players who didn't violate the rules get.
Now, if the kids don't come back next year because they lied to Tressel, then they're douchebags. And I hope karma kicks them in the a$$ when they're playing in the NFL. But hopefully they'll all come back, take their punishment, and OSU will manage to not lose any of those 5 games so the season can be salvaged.
And I agree with PPs about the same thing happening at every university. So many of these kids don't get caught. Some get caught years later (Reggie Bush). Some are suspected of wrongdoing, but there's no proof (Cam Newton). They're not out killing people or robbing old ladies, they signed stuff to get free tattoos.
