Help

Anyone of you want to check out my registry and see if I'm forgetting anything? or any must-haves I need to add?

Re: Help

  • I'll check ya out, just cuz I'm procrastinating on housework and Elise won't share her blocks with me.

Where ya at?  Babies R Us?

  • I had typed all this out and the Nest gave me an error and deleted what I wrote.  Grr!  Anyway...

I love the Love & Nature stuff, we have that in E's room too.  So cute!

You did a really good job!  You really thought of a lot of stuff.  The only things I can think of offhand are if you are going to formula feed, get those little divided formula containers.  They are lifesavers in the middle of the night.  You really only need one (they're for powdered formula).

Also, they make these thick flannel pads that you can put in the crib and it soaks up all of whatever unpleasantness you can think of without getting anything on the sheets.  And they're so much easier to change out in the middle of the night due to throwing up or a soaked through diaper.  Crib sheets are a b*tch to change, especially when you're half asleep!  So you might think of getting some of those.

That's all I can think of though!

    Target

Beware.  The return/exchange policy is a b!tch.  If you get things that aren't on your registry (and believe me, you will), add them to the registry and mark them as paid before going to the store and trying to exchange them.

  • You really don't need the microwave sterilizer (assuming you have a dishwasher, it does the same thing).

Totally a personal preference but you are going to use 9oz bottles a LOT longer than 4oz.  If you are BFing, I'd just get 1 pack of the 9oz.

Get an extra boppy cover; and look for the waterproof boppy cover.  It'll keep the actual boppy clean so it doesn't smell when they vom and poop on it.

If you're getting the bumbo, I'd get the tray as well.

I also recommend getting bibs with snaps instead of velcro.  When I wash N's clothes it never fails that a velcro bib will get caught on a piece of clothing and rip it when I pull it apart.  I curse loudly every time.

The ear thermometers SUCK.  We have one and I hate it.  I think they work better once they are older and can keep still but it is always telling me her temp is 93 degrees.  And I'm like, um, she'd be dead, thanks.

I'd get one of those $5 bath sponge things for when she is newborn.  They're too little to put in the tub and the sponge was a lifesaver for us.

Someone bought us blunt edge nose hair clippers instead of baby fingernail clippers.  Best thing ever.  I have never even come close to cutting N's fingers.  I highly recommend them in lieu of actual clippers.

We have the summer infant video monitor and it's ok.  We can see in her room pretty well when the lamp is on but once the lamp is turned off, I can't see sh!t.

I don't recommend the bjorn.  Go lurk on the AP board on the bump; I think it's the bjorn that puts pressure on their hips in a weird way and can cause some problems later on.  Don't quote me on that though.

I'd choose the exersaucer over a walker simply b/c they will use it longer.  My mom got N one that converts into a walker toy; we're still playing with that thing and she's had it since July.

You need a fisher price seahorse.  Trust.Me.

I'd be conservative in buying pacifiers and sippy cups b/c your baby will be particular about those things.

We got violet for Christmas.  It's super cute.  =)

Very thorough!  When is your shower?  I owe you a twitter DM; I swear I'm not ignoring you.

  • yeah I believe it says in the information for the thermometer that it's for children over a year or something like that.  Once they are old enough though, trust me it is a great thing to have!  It takes E's temp in seconds, we have the Braun one. And it's accurate.  I think while they are little babies, the docs recommend the temp be taken from the hiney.  You can get a special little thermometer for that for about ten bucks I think from Target and it's made so you can't put it in too deeply (cringe!).

We also have a Violet and as you can see from the tent bed pics I posted on FB yesterday, she sleeps with her every night.  The laptop I was wanting to get her went along with Violet and spoke in her voice.

I had TWO boppys and never used either, it was always easier to just use a pillow than to position the thing and the baby and all that.  But most people love them.  But ditto Shoe on the bottles, the bibs, the # of pacifiers (Elise was VERY particular about what kind she liked).  And she loved her walker, we never had an exersaucer because I didn't like the idea of the poor babies walking and walking and never getting anywhere, seems like it'd frustrate them!

  • So Shoe, don't throw out that ear thermometer just yet, you'll love it in about six months!  Unless yours is defective!

Not throwing it out for sure; that thing is pricey.  I was more suggesting that she find an alternative for when the babe is little.
