you saved $51k in less than 2 years?! You are my hero. DH and I are currently stressing about how much it's going to cost to send Felix to school (K-12) and some of your methods might just help! We need to find about 14k-15k extra each year starting with preschool.
I already work two jobs -- I tutor in addition to teaching, but all of my tutoring money goes to the nanny/babysitter (but at least we can pay her!). Ryan is always working, but he doesn't always get paid and we never know how much he's going to make. We have a mortgage, but we don't have car payments. And we pay our credit card off each month so our only debt is my student loans (which I'll be paying forever).
You'll have to send me more of your tips!
Re: **jl&jl**
Not going to say it was easy...but it was SOOO worth it! We seriously lived on nothing.
We followed the Total Money Makeover (www.daveramsey.com). We also took his 13 week Financial Peace University.
Sounds like you're doing lots right already! Big thing...get rid of the credit cards! On average we all spend 14-16% more with credit cards. I didn't believe this until I actually got rid of them. It's so true. Getting on a written, cash only budget is key. It really works.
Feel free to friend me on FB and I can give you more specific suggestions. I don't mind helping at all. Especially since we learned so much and flew solo when we were working on it.
