That DH's Scrooge boss actually LETS him take a vacation this year! I keep telling him not to forget about talking to him about our FL trip because they have to put their names on a calendar for the time off. Unfortunately his boss (the GM) is famous for telling people stuff and making them sweat it out on when it'll happen.
It's frustrating that he won't ask the boss about the vacation yet, although I know it's not his fault because he's waiting to find out what's going on first and they won't tell anyone anything. Thing is, I already booked the air fare because I couldn't pass up the price. He said if he can't go just to take my sister or my cousin or my mom. But it's the week of our anniversary and I won't feel right leaving him. I mean, I guess the worst case scenario is we eat $370. And it's only money, right?
Re: Keep your fingers crossed....
Yeah this guy has always been like that from the way DH talks about him. He's a nice man, but very negative as well. Threatening your employees with layoffs that you aren't even sure are going to happen - that's not cool.
We're going to visit my cousins in Melbourne so we're flying into Orlando then will probably go to Cocoa Beach one day & KSC one day. Originally I was hoping to drive to the Palm Beach area when we first got there and spend the night there so we can visit my cousins in that area but I guess it all depends on who in that area will be around. I have a ton of cousins in FL but they're all scattered throughout the state - Naples, Tallahassee, Melbourne, Hollywood, Boynton Beach, Lake Worth, Ocala....and Mike has a niece in Spring Hill.
I am sorry that his boss is being such an ahole. That is a terrible thing to do to your employees, keeping them so on edge like that.
I hope everything works out with your vacay. I know the feeling about pushing DH to get it on the calender. I feel like if we don't get it on there, and with verbal approval, then it is never going to happen.
Good luck with everything Cindy!

Thanks gals!! I guess it is possible to change a ticket - I'm looking on Delta's site right now just in case we do need to change anything so we don't have to eat the $370. I also gave my cousin a heads up that we're encountering this unforeseen issue - her H is being transferred to either Houston or DC this spring/summer so we need to know when they're moving so we can still see them before they move.
I know now of course not to book air fare anymore until the year of the trip, AFTER we get the vacation time cleared - it's my own fault for wanting to gobble up the cheap price. Now, I am going to check the site just for schitts n' giggles to see what airfare from DTW to MCO is going for, 3 months before our planned trip....if it's less than $185 pp I'm gonna go kick myself!
Sounds like his boss is just a greedy, corporate America type of person. I hope karma comes back around and kicks him in the arse!
But I am commencing the pretzel stance for you too! Keep us posted.
