Pools

I'll be looking at houses in a couple of months (moving from PA) and what can you tell me about pools? I've never had one and I know FL can be very hot for quite a few months. I am wondering if I should look for a place that has a pool or no. Are they a lot of work to maintain? DH won't be around too much to help so it would mainly be me and I have an 11 year old (who would help) and a baby. Thanks!

Re: Pools

  • 99% of freestanding homes down here have a pool. They are a lot of time and money to maintain. If you don't have the time, or the money to hire a pool guy, then I would recommend moving to a community that has a common pool area. The HOA pays for the maintenance, and most also come with a nice club house and gym. I've lived in a few different communities that all had great pools, some even had hot tubs.
  • What is the general cost of hiring someone to maintain your pool?
  • Hi Val,

We just signed a contract to have our pool built next month here in So. Florida and it is about $100 a month (maybe  you can find a touch less).  They come out once a week....)  A pool is awesome because it is hot and boring without one in the summer here.  If you can find a house with a nice community pool and the house is in nice proximity to the pool - that is the best of both worlds if you are looking to keep your costs & personal workload down.  It isn't much work if you pay to have someone else do it...just depends what you can afford :o)

     Good luck with your move!
