New Appetizer Ideas

I'm looking for some new appetizers to make this year.  What are the most interesting, tasty concoctions you have come up with.  Something aside from the standard spinach artichoke dip.  Does anyone have an appetizer that always gets oohs and aaahs?

I'm thinking along the lines of bacon wrapped dates.  Creative and yummy!

Re: New Appetizer Ideas

  • Here are two of my favorites that are always big hits:

I bake slices of pancetta and bake them until they are crispy.  I top them with goat cheese and slices of pear and then sprinkle them with fresh thyme leaves and a little cracked black pepper.

I get super high quality beef tenderloin (Akaushi) that I cut into a rectangle then sear on just the outside.  I then slice it very thinly and serve it on a pink salt plate I have and drizzle it with white truffle oil.

Yum the pancetta recipe sounds delish!  Thanks for sharing, I will be sure to try it out.

  • take a fig cut it in four lenghtwise, dent the middle and put a little gob of goat cheese, wrap the fig in procuitto and drizzle with olive oil, put in oven 350ish for about 10-15min. serve on plate, drizzle or brush them with a little honey.  It's really tasty and looks like you put more work into them than you actually did:)
  • Goat Cheese empanadas

    Refrigerated pie crust (double crust)

    4 oz goat cheese

    1 jar corn salsa

    water

Preheat oven to 350.   Using a 3 " biscuit cutter or floured glass, cut 16 circles of dough.  Place a teaspoon of cheese on each circle. Moisten your finger with warm water and and run it around the edge of the dough. fold dough over the cheese into a half circle.  Press a fork around the edge.  Place on cookie sheet and bake for 15 - 20 until dough in nicely browned.  Serve with corn salsa.

  • Everyone love my bacon wrapped lil smokies- cut thin sliced bacon into thirds so you have three short pieces and wrap them around the little smokies.  Line a 13x9 with them and sprinkle a lot brown sugar on top. Bake at 350 for 40 minutes or so until the brown sugar melts and the bacon starts to look cooked.  Very tasty!

  • Bacon wrapped tater tots

They aren't exactly fancy or anything, but everyone loves them, and they are easy!!

  • Everyone always likes my baked brie. I do it two ways (both in a mini loaf pan):

Cut up the brie to place in the bottom of the loaf pan. Then sprinkle the top with brown sugar and almonds. Sometimes I do it just like that, sometimes I add blackberries.

On my blog I also have a recipe for caramelized onion puff pastries, roasted red pepper and goat cheese rolls, and a crowd favorite: zucchini crostini.
