Diaper Rash

Hi ladies!

I am in need of some advice about diaper rash.

L started getting a diaper rash about a week ago(we had tried a new wipe), bright red on the outside and a big circle on her bum.  Two days ago it looked to be clearing up(we finally had an aha moment and thought it might be the new wipes so we stopped using them)but this morning it was back red and ugly and looks to almost be spreading. We have been diligent about changing her diaper and letting her air out. We have tried using Boudreaxs butt paste and are now using aquifer.   It hasn't seemed to bother her until tonight  when she cringed when I went to wipe her.

Any advice on how to proceed? This is the first diaper rash she has had.

Re: Diaper Rash

  • try to keep her diaper off as much as possible.

    Use plain cornstarch

call the pedi and get a rx for Nyastin.

  • If it doesn't clear up, bring her in to get it checked...It could have turned into a type of yeast infection so she may need something stronger...
  • when you say its spreading, is it in the creases of her legs?  Do you see small little bumps within the red inflammed areas? if you do - it could be a rash related to yeast, especially if she was recently on an antibiotic.  If thats the case you could try puting Lotrimin cream on the rash to see if that makes her feel better until you can take her to the pedi to have it checked out. I would definitely call the pedi in the morning.
  • We're having diaper rash issues too with DD (11 months old).  She is having nasty poops, so it is probably something she is eating (blueberries & blueberry puffs?).  We tried the cornstarch powder, but it didn't help this time.  DH got Desitin and we've been slathering her with that, as well as giving her naked bum time.  She is on an antibiotic for an ear infection, so maybe that is not helping either... anyway, I feel your pain! I hope her rash clears up soon!
  • Definitely call if it doesn't get better....but is she teething??? My kids always get a rash when they are getting teeth!!!

  • Thanks for all of the ideas!

She just finished up a course of augmenten (sp?) right around the time the rash started and  she is teething up a storm but  I haven't noticed any white bumps. I will definitely  keep my eye on it and definitely give the pedi a call in the morning.

Also she's getting a lot of naked bum time :-) and she loves it. Its all just  totally sucky because she's such a happy kid and she's not fussy about it but it has to be painful.

    Again thank you so much!!!

  • Domenic got his yeast diaper rash immediately following taking Augmentin.  I would bet its yeast, and its probably super itchy for her.  Let us know how you make out with the pedi. Good luck.
