Sprintec users....

So I've been on this bcp for about a year now. I've had the common spotting between cycles and an incease of flow for a couple days during my cycle. I was suppose to start my cycle Monday, yesterday I had a light brown discharge and then today (Wednesday) I thought I had started but halfway through the day the bleeding stopped and then around 8 at night started again. I was thinking it could have been the early symptoms of pregnancy but when I took it a test it was negative. Has anyone else had this side effect or similar situatuion? I don't know how to deal with the lack of bleeding and negavtive preg. tests.

Re: Sprintec users....

  • I've been on that one for a bout a good 6 years or so. Its cause about the same things your talking about. I start on the same day of the month TMI: but it starts out like the light brown discharge your talking about, then runs it few days then about the last day has a stop go effect, it's also been effecting my moods.

    Hope that helps.

  • I have been on it for more years that I can remember.  I have never had the problem you are talking about.  I can bet money on when it will come.  However, I have noticed a decreased sex drive.  I am going to my gyn in March and am going to ask her to switch me.

  • I'm on tri-Sprintec, started two months ago, and the entire time I've been having this same problem.  It's gotten to the point where I'm going to switch pills once the refills I have run out.

  • You can check out webmd and see reviews on medication such as tri-sprintec and other birth control pills and see what others have to say about it and the other options out there for you to switch to, as for me and that pill were going separate ways very soon.

  • I have been on tri-sprintec for a few years now after switching from ortho tri cyclen lo.  I have somewhat of the same issues as you now.  I always had a very regular period on the pill.  I would start on a Wednesday and end Saturday evening or Sunday.  Over about the last year or so, my period is starting to diminish completely.  Like you, mine starts out with just a brownish discharge and I will eventually start and it seems like my flow either gets way lighter, or just stops and then I will start back up the next day or in the evening.  My periods used to last 3-4 days and now they are only a day or two.  I have been playing with the idea of stopping taking BC all together, but I am afraid I'll get knocked up (I am married, but we are NOT ready for kids right now lol).  If I were you, I would go see your doctor or gyno and see if they can switch you to a different pill.  I'm no expert, but irregular periods seem kind of odd if you've been on the pill for almost a year.  Hope you figure out what's going on!
  • Over time, as the birth control hormones build up in your system, it may thin the lining of the uterus that you normally shed during a period. This results in a much lighter flow. I took Loestrin for many years and experienced a similar situation after about a year. My cycles were about 2-3 days and a mix of light bleeding and spotting. If you are concerned with this, though, I would ask your doctor about switching to a different brand of pill so you will feel more reassured.
  • I got pregnant on tri-sprintec after about two years of use. I spotted around the time I was expecting my January period and thought nothing of it. About a month later  I got sick on the side of the road and realized I was late for my February period. Now I'm sitting here with a baby snoring on my lap. If you suspect that you're pregnant stop taking BC and take a test again in a couple of days.
