Federal Student Loans

Does anyone have them?

As their website says to do, I sent them a letter about 1.5 months ago with my SS# and a copy of our marriage license requesting to change the name on my account, but it hasn't been.

Has anyone else done this yet?

ETA: Does anyone know what the interest rate decrease is for the first 12month pay on time incentive is?

It says my account will be elevatued on 2/14 and that I'm on my way to meeting the incentive, but I don't know what the incentive actually is. Lol

Re: Federal Student Loans

  • ....are the devil?

Thanks for reminding me to change my name :P I Keep forgetting to send it in....they're backed up I know that so it should be soon.

i have no idea about the decrease, i do auto payments, so my IR dropped anyway, but its supposed to be something semi decent

Let me know what happens :) I'd be interested to know :)

This is such a bitter subject, I havent gotten a job yet but have to pay the ed loans back anyway LOL gotta love it :P

  • I have them but I haven't changed my name yet (I know...I suck). I think the interest decrease is .25% for paying on time a year. You may want to look into an Income Based Repayment plan based on your income...It helped me a lot.

  • Thanks!

I was hoping it'd be a 0.25% interest reduction, and pp-I also have the 0.25% reduction for the EDA as well.

I emailed them about the name change, I'll just you an update when I get a response.

Denise- thanks for suggesting the income plan, I'll look into it!

  • I haven't changed mine yet.  Do you have the Direct Loan?

  • I read something on mine that you have to change your name at your college first. I don't think I'm going to bother to change my name on mine though.. They'll be paid off soon anyway..
  • I am doing the graduated repayment plan..so i dont know what the pay on time incentive is...and no i havent changed my name yet and I probably never will! LOL Heres to the next 100 years of student loan payments

  • Thanks for the reminder!  I should change my name with them too.

I have student loans, and work for the Government.  It frustrates me that I work for the Government, they give me a paycheck and then I have to pay them!

  • I didn't change mine either!  I figured I will pay it off soon too!  Too much of a hassel!  And I was also told that you didn't have to change it.  I guess that I'm just not worried about it.
