Stopping junk mail

I have been on a mission over the last several months to stop all junk mail from hitting our mailbox.  I have to say that I am finally seeing the results.  We get very little mail and the junk mail I do get, I call them right away to take us off their mailing list.

I just find junk mail annoying and a waste since it just gets discarded anyways.  Has anyone else tried to stop junk mail? or am I just anal about it?

Re: Stopping junk mail

  • Ugh, yes, I HATE junk mail!  I can't seem to stop it.  I try to block addresses, but somehow, it doesn't really seem to work that well.  So, instead of clogging up my main email with junk, I have a separate email address that I use just for junk mail.  It's where I get my coupons from stores sent, and I use it when I order something online.  It's amazing how much that helped my junk mail situation on my mail email address.
  • Sometimes if the junk mail comes with a postage-paid envelope, I stuff it with whatever they sent - torn envelope included - and mail it back to them. I don't know that it actually stops them from sending more, but it's strangely satisfying.

  • Haha, oops!  I took it as junk mail for email.  In regards to getting junk mail in the actual mail, we don't get too much of it.  We're actually getting more mail for the previous owner of our house than junk mail from random places.  It's really annoying, and we've lived in our house for about 5 months and don't really get why we're still getting his mail.

trinalo: my parents have done that with some junk mail, too!

  • We just moved to a new place December 20th and luckily we haven't been getting very much junk mail.

I really like trinalo's idea with sending the mail back in the pre paid envelope lol!!!  I may have to try that!

  • I hate junk mail! That's all I get some days.

How do I remove myself from credit card and bank lists? I have two credit cards and do not want any more. And if I change my bank, my decision will not be based on some stupid piece of mail I get... I need these two out!!!

There is an opt out number you can call.  Here is the website:

    www.optoutprescreen.com/

Also, if you call the number on the junk you get and tell them to remove you from their mailing list, they legally have to.  I opted out of this.  But also, did this:

    www.dmachoice.org

It is an opt-out of all junk mail.  It costs $1, but it works. I would recommend it.
