Relocating to Raleigh

Hello NC Nesties!

My husband and I are looking to relocate to the Raleigh area from Knoxville, TN, but have never even visited the area!  Any and all suggestions for great neighborhoods for young couples would be greatly appreciated.  We will probably rent a home for a little while until we can decided where we want to settle, but are open to townhomes and apartment homes.  TIA!

Re: Relocating to Raleigh

  • Welcome to Raleigh! DH and I love it here (we just moved here last year).

Raleigh is an awesome city that sort of feels like a small town. If you're looking for the young couples' scene, try right downtown, like Glenwood South. Also the Brier Creek area is nice too (tons of apartments, condos/townhouses, shopping, all new developments) but it's nothing unique. Basically anywhere in the Raleigh "beltline" of highways is a nice area. If you look at a map of Raleigh, the "beltline" is anywhere in the circle of expressways that circle the city.

If you want to be in the suburbs, Cary and Wake Forest are nice too.

    Hope that helps! :)

  • We moved to Raleigh 3 years ago from Jersey and just love it!  Below is a post about some of our favorite areas in Raleigh.  But if you have more questions that these responses don't cover, definitely let us know!  I know it is a big decision.

  • I guess I should put my vote in for North Raleigh.  When we first started looking we thought we had to be downtown to be living near young couples, and that definitely isn't true.  While there are young couples there, there are also many who want a little more house or simply can't afford downtown prices.  We LOVE our neighborhood in North Raleigh.  There are tons of young couples and young families.  We are very tight knit and have tons of neighborhood events (block parties, supper club, 4th of July and Halloween parades, summer happy hours, Earth Day plant exchange, and the list goes on).
  • I love it here too!  DH and I moved here from Charlotte but I grew up here too.  We want to move to Apex/Chatham Co. line where we can have more land but be close enough to all that this area has to offer!  Lots of people our age and GREAT nesties!  You're crazy if you regret moving here after you do!  Come on down!
