Does this ever happen to you?

So I work for a souvenir company and my boss sent us all pictures of these hats that he wants to start bringing in. It was two plaid fedora's in different colors. Now, I think this is a terrible idea so I say "who are we? Bear Bryant?" .... all the girls (because that's who was around when I opened the email) just looked at me sideways... they had no idea what I was talking about...

Re: Does this ever happen to you?

  • All the time. I'll make some sort of sports reference, and my friends will be like, "Break it down for me please." Except for H and my guy friends - I think they appreciate that I love sports and they can actually talk about it with me. It's kinda amusing, because I've been told a lot of people are surprised I'm into sports as much as I am.

  • That is hysterical.  Most of the people I work with are sports nuts but only ACC so if I reference anything outside of that they look at me as if I have two heads.
  • All the time, in a round-about way. I'm crazy into sports at Oklahoma State, and I love talking about them. As is my mother. So, instead of talking to the men in my life about sports, my mom and I chat about them.

My friends? Forget about it. They could care less. It's frustrating! So, I usually get my talking-about-sports fix on here (sometimes) and on another message board specifically for OSU.

  • Yes.

I will watch just about any sport - gymnastics, golf, all the majors (baseball, football, basketball, hockey, both collegiate and pro), soccer, anything.  Hell, I've gone to collegiate SQUASH matches (it's like racquetball if you didn't know).  I think the only thing I can't watch on TV (or even in person) is bowling.

So when I make a sport reference, I try to make it general versus specific.  My DH is even worse. Once he made his sports law professor stop in the middle of a lecture to have a student check a fact because DH corrected him regarding an Olympic gymnast who was banned for an illegal substance. (It was a Romanian gymnast in the 80s who had taken cold medicine with an illegal substance in the ingredients)

It turned out DH was correct and the professor was not.

I swim because I'm too damned sexy for a sport that requires real clothing.

    Um, that's awesome!

Well glad to know its not just me! :)

  • I was told by a college classmate of mine (who was a guy) that when it comes to sports I'm worse than most guys he knows.  I smiled & thanked him for the compliment!

DH knows how lucky he his, his guy friends tell him they wish they could find a gal that loves sports like I do.  DD already knows what sport is what when we have them on & by 9 months she could lift her arms up in the air when we said "Touchdown"!

DS is the same way. He's been going to OSU and Thunder games since he was 9 months old. He knows what to do when The Waving Song and the OSU fight song play, he says "Pete!" when Pistol Pete comes around, and he gets really into the basketball games. He's 2 now and is getting more attached to football and basketball in general. I think I'm raising a sports nut - which makes DH so thrilled.
