Distressed over rug stain made WORSE by baking soda. Help!

I was given a large (12x16) area rug recently.  We just moved into a house with a large hardwood living room.  Rug is low pile, off-white with a wedgewood blue diamond pattern.  It used to be in my boss' private gym, which she never used.  It cost a few thousand $$ and I'm so upset that it already has a stain.

DH was playing too roughly with one of my toddlers after snack (yes, I am blaming this all on him ;)) and she spit up.  He blotted it with a damp rag, and when I got home it was still wet.  It smelled like puke, but no color.  He suggested we sprinkle some baking soda and let it stand overnight.  I went to vacuum it in the morning and the stain had yellowed.

Is there anything to be done with yellowing caused by baking soda?  Today I tried some Folex spray which can be a miracle cure, and it did absolutely nothing.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
