Opinions please

If you have a rectangular table that turns into a square when the leaf is added, what shape rug do you have under the table?

It will be in the rectangular form most of the time, so do we go with rectangle?

Re: Opinions please

  • If the table will be rectangle at least 90% of the time, I would get a rectangle rug.
  • Is this your main eating area, or do you have a breakfast bar type area where you usually eat?   I ask because having a rug under a dining room table seems it would get dirty and stained really fast, especially with having a LO (but what would I know?). I debated on having a rug under our table for a while but decided against it because I didn't want to worry too much about getting food on it.   We only have one eating area, and eat there everyday, so our situation might be different.

Anyway.....when I was looking at rugs, I was looking at rectangle rugs because 90% of the time our table is in the rectangle shape.

  • I vote rectangle.

It's our main dining area, but we also have a bar off the kitchen which is directly next to the dining table.

I'm not worried about stains.  It needs a rug to break up the space.  The table and our floors are almost the same color.

See?  It's a dark picture, but doesn't it look like it needs something under to break up the darkness of both woods?

  • We have a round rug under ours! We keep the table in the square shape.

I didn't even think of round.  That could work!

It's the same pattern as the big one you have; we get compliments on it EVERY time someone comes over.

  • I meant to add: A round rug could soften the angular lines in that room, considering table edges, pointy chair tops, and window panes. A bit of softness from a different shape could be a nice visual change.

Esp since it is so close to the rug in your living room.  What about a solid color rug that plays off the rug in your living room. I would think a patterned rug in the dining room would compete.

I was going to do a solid blue, green, or beige that coordinates with the living room.  Now my search begins for a round rug!

The pattern makes me smile. :) Check Overstock for round ones, if you haven't already.
