Amaryllis

What do you do with the bulbs after they bloom?  How do you store?  I bought a bulb for $20.00 now it is done blooming, I want to make sure I keep it alive for next Christmas?

Re: Amaryllis

  • Move it to an area that gets plenty of sunlight. Continue to water it as needed and it will continue to sprout leaves. In Sept, you'll need to stop watering the plant to allow it to go dormant. Place it in a cool, dry place for about 8-10 weeks. After that time, you can repot it and water it to stimulate growth.

See this link for more details.

  • I have an amaryllis that I have had for over 5 years.

I never let it go dormant, just continue to water it and when the leaves turn brown trim them off.

Shortly after new leaves will come out of the bulb. It flowers once, sometimes two times a year.
