Party in KC...help please

Hi ladies! I am from Omaha and planning a bachelorette party in KC for March.  Now I haven't been to KC in about 8 years...so yeah, I need your help. Most likely we will be staying at the Q Hotel.  Any suggestions on salons to maybe get our hair or nails done?  Or bars/nightlife that are a must?  I've heard of Power & Light, but what's it all about?  Thank so much for your help!!!!

Re: Party in KC...help please

  • P&L is the entertainment district in KC. It would definitely be the place for a Bachelorette Party. Here's the website... http://www.powerandlightdistrict.com/index.cfm

On the site, they have a nail salon listed. I personally have no experience with it, but it said you could book special events there. Under the "plan an event" tab there is a contact person for planning bachelorette parties- I think you can get wristbands for the night. You will also be close to the Plaza if you wanted to go out for a nice dinner or lunch. http://www.countryclubplaza.com/

The Q hotel is right by Westport, which has gone a bit downhill the past few years, but there is a dueling piano bar, Ernie Biggs, which is supposed to be fun.

  • Also, forgot to throw out Martini Corner as a place to go out. It's another entertainment area with bars http://www.martinicorner.com/

  • I would avoid Westport all together. Stay where the action is and safe on the plaza or downtown close to P&L. There is a Howl at the Moon in P&L which is great for bachelorette parties. The Holiday Inn Aladdin is downtown, within walking distance to P&L, close to the action and offers great room rates. There are several salons and nail bars in the area. Have fun!
  • Despite its proximity to Westport, the Q is really nice. I stayed there with a couple of girlfriends one weekend, and we had a blast. They do manis and pedis. I think it has a shuttle service that would take you to Power & Light, or you could use KC Strip, the trolley service that stops at all the entertainment districts here.

A salon you could try is Polished, which is in the Power & Light District. I got my nails done there for my wedding. They did a great job, and the prices were very reasonable considering they are located right downtown. The atmosphere would be great for a bachelorette party, too.

If you're looking for restaurants, consider Extra Virgin, which has a great tapas menu. See if you can make reservations, because they get really busy on the weekends.

    Have fun!

  • Hey there! I am from Omaha, too (though raised in KC.) I got married in KC a few years ago and had the rehearsal dinner and the wedding party stay at the Q. Loved them and the hotel was very nice and in a good location. I believe they also have a spa there that you might check into for nails and such.

As for bachelorette party ideas,  my bridesmaids took me to a dueling piano bar that is right across the street from the Q in Westport. I think it was called JB's or something....but it was really fun and they make a point to single-out the bride if you're looking for that type of experience for your friend. Also, convenient as you can walk back to your room. :op

  • Ooh! It was called Ernie Biggs. Just read it in another post.
  • Q hotel is where we stayed at for mine and I loved it! We did massages there which were amazing. Then we ate at the plaza and the Q had a free shuttle there and back.

Where to go depends on the bride.... If she likes more hang out with friends and talk or listen to music I would recommend going out in Westport. If you do go there then go to Ernie Biggs and have them get her on stage and make up a song about her. If she is more into going dancing then go to Power & Light. Shark bar is my favorite down there for a girl's night out.

  • I forgot another fun thing. For a bachelorette party I threw we did pole dancing lessons before. It was just some of her closer friends and then went to the hotel and got ready after. We had a blast. The place was called pole works.
