Do I really need a pregnancy pillow?

So I'm halfway through pregnancy #2.  My hips are getting achy from sleeping on my side.  But, I really don't want to spend $50 on a pillow that gives DH very little room in our bed.  Is it really worth it?  Can I just stick a regular pillow between my knees?  I know, lame question, but it's slow in here.  What else do you have to do? :)

Re: Do I really need a pregnancy pillow?

  • I just used a king sized pillow

  • I used a body pillow and it helped wonders, yes... it took up a good bit of room in the bed but it got dh used to some space in the bed as we cosleep with our LO. It was however a pain when I had to switch sides with the pillow as I had to pull blankets back, move then pull them back up. More of a sleep disturbance than anything.

  • Regular pillows work or you can get a body pillow at Target for around $10.
  • I had a regular pillow for between my knees, and a wedge for under my stomach.

  • No.  I just put a pillow between my legs when I laid on my side--and sometimes used two pillows for my head.
  • I used like 6 pillows toward the end...you need to reconfigure all the time, and then at the end, you might only be able to sleep if you prop yourself half sitting in a craftmatic adjustable type pose...so like, just get a bunch. for the sitting up sleeping weeks, I liked a backrest pillow with a travel neck pillow and a regular pillow, and then like 3 pillows under my knees. you have to be creative.

  • I used king sized pillows, instead of the body pillow, for the first pregnancy; and got a body pillow for the second. Both worked fine. Body pillows are pretty cheap though, at Target; so just shop around. And yes, even fifty dollars is not too much to pay for a last couple of months' good night's sleep; you need all the help and support you can wrangle.

  • Doctors recommend that by the third trimester you only sleep on your sides, preferably your left side. Sleeping whilst pregnant is already a challenge, and forcing yourself to sleep in a position you are not used to, adds to the frustration. Choosing the best pregnancy pillow for you will take a little research. Leachco offers a few different designs in maternity pillows that will aid in your comfort.
