clogged drain

does anyone know a safer way to unclog a drain- besides draino-like stuff?

Re: clogged drain

  • Remove what you can than sprinkle liberally with baking soda. Follow with some vinegar and then boiling water. If that doesn't work get one of those plastic zip drain things from Home Depot or Walmart. They say they're disposable, but I've seen people here say they've used them repeatedly with no problem.

This has worked well for me. After the first try, it didn't work. So, I put in more baking soda and the vinegar and let it sit overnight. Then rinsed with boiling water and it cleared up like a dream.

  • If you know it's from hair going down the drain, just get the Zip It.

If you don't think it's hair, then try the baking soda trick. It'll help the ick and soap scum break loose and bubble up.

  • If you know its hair then a wire hanger...at least that's what my dad taught me.

I got one stuck in the bath drain one time; took two hours to get it out Tongue Tied
