I don't really have a prefrence... but I guess I may root for Oregon just because they've never won a National Championship in football.

Buuut, I do have to ask, what in the world does 'War Damn Eagle' mean? I mean, is it a phrase someone of major importance used? Does it mean something? Or, is it just some words strung together that don't mean a whole lot of anything like 'Rock Chalk, Jayhawk' or 'Boomer Sooner'? I'm just really curious... these kind of things always interest me.

War Eagle is the title of our fight song and battle cry. The legend dates back to the Civil War when a wounded Eagle was found and cared for by soldier. Several years later the soldier and eagle ended up in Auburn and during the first AU/UGA game, the eagle got away from the guy and circled the field. Game attendees became excited and after Auburn won, the eagle fell to the ground and died.

There are a few other stories but this is the most popular and nobody knows for sure how the phrase was coined but we've kept it and have adopted the eagle as our second mascot.

Nova and Spirit (our Golden and Bald Eagles) are my absolute favorite part of gameday. There is just something about seeing one of those eagles soaring over everybody and landing at the 50 yard line that is just..breathtaking.

    This :)

Before every home game we have an eagle flight around out stadium, that lands at midfield. It is seriously one of the most incredible things I've ever seen in college athletics.

  • I'm glad somebody cleared up that War Eagle thing. My SIL went to Auburn, but I never got the full story of what that means.

I don't have a preference tonight, either. I'm just glad the game is finally on - bowl season lasted WAY too long this year.

  • Ugh, as much as it pains me to say it.... Go DUCKS!!!
  • SEC all the way, baby. And when the Air Force falcon decided to take a joy-flight over Shreveport, the Nashville sports radio show tried to say something like the AF falcon was the only performing mascot I'n college football. I was like..... Uh.... No, Auburn does too jackasses. Also, I asked a Kansas friend about the Rock Chalk Jahawk thing, and she said it just had to do with the type of rock found I'n KS. Still doesn't make much sense, but there is something behind it.
