shut down...im done

At least half (or more) of our store locations are closed down due to the snow/ice conditions.  It's hard get any work done when you know everyone south of you is closed!  I've been bored since about 8:45am and it sucks!

Friday we found out that by the end of April (company wide) we have to take a week of furlough...I'm not happy about this!  We had to do them last year and I was really hoping that we wouldn't have to do it again this year!  Going a week w/o pay is really hard - you guys know - and it just sucks so bad!

To top it all off, Don surrendered his truck before we got married because he just couldn't afford the payments ($625/month) anymore and didn't want to bring that kind of "baggage" into our marriage.  Well, last week the bank got in contact w/ him...the bank auctioned off his truck and the balance left still due is $10K which Don is now responsible for!  They gave him 2 options: 1 - to have his wages garnished or 2 - secure a loan w/ them for $390/month!  Obviously, the loan is better.  But this really puts a crimp into our finances...I just have to vent somewhere!  He has to start paying next month.  We live pretty much paycheck to pay check as it is w/ somewhat of a cushion, but having that $400 go out each month is going to deplete that monthly cushion.  He already has a 2nd job as it is...he works 7 days a week.  Don's said that he'll get a 3rd job if he has to, but good Lord...he already works 70-80 hrs a week right now!  I offered to get a 2nd job and work on the weekends, but he refuses to let me do so!  He says that this is his problem to fix, which while I agree - we're a team now "for better or worse" and I can't just leave him hanging!!!

Re: shut down...im done

  • ugh...that's just lame.

I hate hearing stories about people who work as hard as you guys do, but yet you're still struggling with bills.

I know so many lazy a-holes that don't do anything but sponge off of their parents and the government.

    It's just not fair.

  • We got 3 inches last night and it's still coming (more or less just sleet now) but everything is shut down. I'm really surprised how much is closed but I'm not complaining. J and I both have a snow day!

Really sorry to hear about the truck situation. I agree with you and being a team now. I would try to talk to him again (maybe when he might not be too stressed) and see what all of your options are. Maybe do a part time baby-sitting gig? It can really add up even if you just do 2-3 nights a week. I hope everything works out. GL!

  • wow, what a crappy situation!  Sorry you guys are going through this!  I can't believe the balance is still $10 grand!  I can't imagine him working anymore than it sounds like he already does! Hang in there!

  • I just can't believe this is happening I guess.  I feel like we were finally starting to recover from him losing his job at the end of 2009 and shi!t has hit the fan again

I'm sorry to vent guys, but I just have no where else to turn and to be a neutral sounding board.

  • Oh Jen, that sucks.  I'm so sorry to hear that you guys are going through this.  Just keep in mind that things will get better.  I know right now it seems like you won't be able to get out of it, but you will.

There was a period when we were barely living paycheck to paycheck, Richard was unemployed for several months, and we had to save for the wedding.  I was so stressed out and didn't think we'd be able to get by let alone have a wedding.  Things ended up working out for us.  I picked up two part time jobs (10-12 hours per week) and Richard got a job.

Just stay strong and remain optimistic about things.

  • I'm sorry to hear this.  I hope things get better for you soon.

Stories like this make me feel guilty about how much I hate my job and want to quit.
