Talk to me about Target

I read that Archer farms uses a lot of certified organic ingredients in a target press release a while ago but I can't find any really good reading material to back it up. Does anyone have any idea about how quality Archer farms really is? I prefer not to hear how good a product is directly from the company who sells it KWIM Wink

If you can't tell by all my posts, I'm trying to become more informed about what my family eats. Big Smile

Re: Talk to me about Target

  • In my quick search, I was unable to find a website for this company.  Do you have one?

Generally speaking, though, the fact that their website is so hard to find makes me think they aren't too concerned with transparency....which generally means that I'm not going to put too much faith in their products.

As far as quality is concerned, we all have different priorities when we like a product....so if I had any further information on it, it'd be a challenge to judge.  For instance, I like Charlies Soap.  My #1 reason for liking it is that it's a local company.  #2 I think it does a great job cleaning.  #3 the environmental impact of their product is low (esp since where they make it is close to me).  Someone on the west coast that also loves Charlies soap will probably like it for different reasons.  It's one of those objective things, you know?

  • From what I've seen in Target, aren't they mostly processed type foods? I would avoid them even if a lot of their ingredients are organic just because it's still processed. "Organic" candy bars aren't really much better for you than non-organic ones, right? Still lots of sugar, probably preservatives, and thickeners, colors, etc.

  • Archer Farms has both Organic and non-organic offerings. I have bought the organic line of child snacks and fruit chews and they are tasty. Some organic cookies are horrid but not these.  Other than that and checking the organic label for superfluous ingredients I don't know.......
  • I'm not really familiar with Archer Farms (I don't shop at Target very often), but I do know that it's Target's private label, which is why there's not a website dedicated to it.  Usually what happens is Target will contract another company to produce their products for them under a private label brand (ie Archer Farms).  Here's a link to the USDA organic fact sheet to help you clear up any confusion that you have.  My rule of thumb when shopping is the less ingredients the product has, the better.  I've become really conscious of GMO products (genetically modified), which is a whole other headache.  I hope this helps a little.  Oh, one side note, Archer Farms has come under some fire for their organic products because some of the producers aren't using organic practices...just another thing to think about.
