Sledding Party

Help....

what was supposed to be a small sledding party for 5 kids has turned into a larger party with about 30 people.

We are starting at 10:00am at our house and heading to the golf course across the street.  After sledding for a while we will head back to our house for some lunch and treats.

All we had planned on doing was homemade mac n cheese, some veggies and a melted snowman smore for each kid.

Now that it's bigger I feel like we need to be serving something while sledding and feeding all of the parents.

Any suggestions on what to feed all of these people?

Re: Sledding Party

  • I don't know if for the kids you were planning on doing Kraft mac & cheese, but if you upgrade to homemade, you could easily serve that to the adults.  Maybe a pot of chili (the Lawry's mix is tasty and quick, I just served it last night for the BCS bowl) and cornbread and I think you're set.  I don't think anyone would be expecting more than that.

This recipe for hot apple cider is really good.  If you can't find cider, natural apple juice works well.

  • If the weather cooperates, we will throw three or four sledding parties each year for roughly 15-20 people.  The high school with the big hill is next door to our house.

We have hot chocolate, hot apple cider, and minestrone at all of them.   There are bottles of rum, bourbon and kahlua strategically placed for the grown ups to add to their beverages.  We add homemade mac & cheese, a green salad and loaves of italian bread.   Our guests will bring cookies and brownies for desserts.

  • I don't think you need to serve anything while you are sledding.  At most you could have a thermos of hot chocolate on hand.

The homemade mac n cheese sounds good.  I like pp suggestion of adding a salad and some italian bread.  You could still do the smores if you wanted or just do brownies and cookies.

  • I've never been to a sledding party. That sounds so fun!

I think anything in a crockpot is easy and yummy. You could do chili, soup or stew in a big crock. We also have a little crock b/c my H loves Lil Smokies. Would something like that work for your group?
