So who predicted it'd go down the wire last night? From an outsiders perspective (I have no ties to either school, I'm a Michigan gal) from all the media hype, you would have thought Auburn would have won it at the end of the 1st quarter. Not dissing Auburn, but I want to hear equal coverage, yes I know Cam Newton was the Heisman winner, but Oregon had a candidate as well & also put up some good numbers most of their games.
I was glad that it was a game you really wanted to watch until the very end (unfortunately last year you knew the winner by halftime). DH thought it'd be a blowout one way or the other, so of course I laughed telling him he was wrong.
Congrats to both schools, Auburn is the champion, but Oregon has nothing to hang their heads down for!
Re: Auburn/Oregon game
Interesting perspective. Everything I heard was that most people thought it was going to be a super close game, just a lot more high scoring. I don't remember saying anything about Auburn being expected to blow them out or win it by the end of the first.
I had a feeling it was going to be a close game and I even told DH before kick-off that I doubted it would be as high scoring as people thought. We definitely had a lot of opportunities to score and hurt ourselves, so it really shouldn't have been that close.
I guess that SEC defense was just a little bit tougher than everyone in the PAC-10 thought it would be...

DH and I were both expecting a shootout. But it wasn't anything like that. The Oregon D did a great job of covering Newton in the first half.
BUT Newton is a hell of a QB and Daly is a hell of a back, and they read the D perfectly.
It was an awesome game. The best games don't have to be the highest scoring games, but you all knew that :-)
I agree that Oregon has nothing to be ashamed of, but I think the way the team looked, I think they knew that and I think they can look at themselves with pride today.
Yeah, I thought it was weird that people were saying it was going to be a high scoring game. I actually thought the final score was going to be lower than it actually was. I don't see why people think when you have the top 2 teams in the country playing, that the score is going to be high. You have the top 2 teams fighting tooth and nail to win they're going to be at their optimal best so a lower scoring game just makes sense.
It was a fantastic game and what a championship game should be. I have the utmost respect for Oregon and their coaching staff after last night and I really felt bad that both teams couldn't win.

I think most people thought it would be high scoring because Auburn and Oregon are both in the top 5 for points scored per game (40-45 points per game).
True. I guess I just figured that when you put 2 top scoring teams together that they would sort of cancel each other out
