Cooking question

I'm making meatballs tonight. I know the recipe is going to make way more than we'll eat tonight and want to freeze the rest. Do I cook them and then freeze them or freeze them raw?

Re: Cooking question

  • i think you could do either.  i like to freeze meatballs raw so they can cook in whatever i'm going to make next (i'm thinking spaghetti sauce).

I was thinking exactly this but wasn't sure. Thanks!

  • I'd cook them.  They'll be more stable when you defrost them and you won't have to worry about them being cooked all the way through even though they have to defrost first.

Hmm good point. I hadn't thought about the stability of defrosting. I think I'll at least brown them before freezing.

My thoughts exactly. It saves you a step of having to defrost, cook and then serve and eat. This way, you can defrost, heat & eat. Plus I have issues with raw meat once its been opened and handled.
