Visiting Scottsdale-things for kids

Hi everyone,

I will be in Scottsdale for a week in March, and although I am quite familiar with the area (we have been visiting for years), I never had a 1 1/2 yr old with me!  Can you give me some ideas of things I can do with my daughter-children's museum, good parks/playgrounds?  What is the temp usually mid March?  Thanks!  :)

Re: Visiting Scottsdale-things for kids

  • Mid March is usually pretty nice, especially if you are coming from a cold/snowy location.  For things to do in Scottsdale for little ones, I don't have a ton of suggestions, but there is a railroad/train park in Scottsdale that can be fun to go to with a playground, train to ride on as well as picnic areas to enjoy some of the AZ weather.

  • it's normally probably about 75 ish in march

the zoo is close to scottsdale, phx children's museum is downtown, train park like pp said is really cool. also if it's a warm day, the zoo has a splash pad as well as a few of our outdoor malls we have here. the kids love those :)

  • Mesa has a kid's museum and it's cute.  The last time I was there they had an area for monsters with puppets and black lights, and a whole thing on beads featuring the beads that cancer kids put together when they are doing their treatments. One side is a small place for kids to climb on.

The science museum in Mesa is near by to this and totally kid friendly.  As an adult I found it interesting, too.  They have gems, dinos, gold panning and other such stuff.

Amazing Jakes is in Mesa and from what I heard is a fun play place for kids.

Cracker Jax is in Scottsdale and is one of those family fun places with games, carts, and mini golf.

Sugar Bowl is in Old Scottsdale and is known for their ice cream.

If you don't have Cold Stone, that's a great ice cream place, too.

I'm sure there are other things I'm not thinking about, but hey...  I don't have kids.  heh... =)

  • Thanks everyone!  I went to the zoo probably over 15 years ago, that would be fun to do again!  The splash pad I know she would love!  Haha-the Sugar Bowl-is that the 60's diner-ish looking place where you eat in a car booth?  I love Old Scottsdale!  I dont think I've been to Mesa, I will check those places out.  It is about 20 degrees in Pgh, so 75 sounds awesome :)
