Need Shower Gift Ideas! :)

I figured I'd ask you ladies with experience so that I can get some good baby shower gifts for a friend with an upcoming shower! :)   Obviously I can buy off of the registry, and probably will get something from there, but I also wondered....

What was your favorite baby shower gift?

What about least favorite?

What's something you wish you had received, but didn't?

What was the one (or two, or three) baby item(s) that you couldn't live without?

What was the baby item you wish you had?

Re: Need Shower Gift Ideas! :)

  • no experience =)    but i thought i'd give my usual gift idea.....

i get a basket (usually a small/shallow laundry basket...one that they can put the baby's laundry in or fill it with toys) and fill it with baby lotion and powder, bath stuff, feeding spoons, diaper wipes, a teddy bear, a toy, sippy cups, nail care kit,  bottle brushes, baby blanket, a book, and whatever else i can think of.

    Kris....I'm finally a Mrs! 10/11/08
  • My go to gift is always this  and the boppy.

  • My shower was so long ago! I don't know if I could pick a favorite gift.

Worst gift was a sleep positioner, I never used it.

I don't think there was anything I didn't get, lol. But special circumstances because she was a preemie and was born before the shower, so people went crazy!

I think I couldn't have lived  without my bumbo. It was essential for Skyler (but she was a preemie!)

I wish I had a sweet diaper bag, but they are too expensive to be practical. lol.

  • My go-to gift is the boppy.  It is so useful even if you don't nurse, IMO.  I think classic board books are a nice addition too especially if you're doing a gift basket.

I don't have a "worst" gift, but I got a butt load of blankets.  I'm not a fan of decor that is babyish either like picture frames or signs.  They seem to clash with my nursery and that always bugged me.

  • Ohhh, I agree with the stickers!!!

I think I'm the only one who hates the boppy ...

  • I generally buy gas drops, saline nose drops and baby tylenol and I will be adding gripe water and aquaphor to that list. In addition to that I also get a couple of small things off the registry. I have so much bath stuff that I may not need to buy any for several years, and I also got a TON of blankets.

Nope, I never use mine. I prop her up on it to take pictures and that is al, I could totally live without it.

That's the only thing I use mine for too!! Haha. I didn't even like it when I was nursing.

Me either... I just used a regular pillow.

  • I got a TON of blankets.. could have done without a bunch of those - I would have taken some back but no one left any gift receipts. So, tip #1, always put in a gift receipt!

I too do the small laundry basket: with lotion, diapers, wipes, soap, shampoo, a small toy, 1 cute outfit, and a handful of other random things for shower gifts. I didn't receive hardly any of these things at my shower and would have liked to, it's not like they wouldn't get used!

The worst gifts were those that were really specific items that I hadn't registered for like a Winnie the Pooh gift set of a small piggy back, ceramic bootie and small pic frame. Not only do I really really dislike Winnie the Pooh, wtf am I supposed to do with these things?? Also, stay away from the Gerber packs of clothing - everyone and their mom buys these for presents (always in NB size) and they run really small.

    HTH!

That's true but if you have a small baby they are really nice!

  • I always make meals and the parents really seem to like that.  I have a menu I print up and they pick 4 or 5 dinners from it.

That said I think any food might be fun if you don't go the registry route.

I think any place that delivers a gc might be fun.

(again I've never been prego but...I get compliments about the food a lot)

  • Lt's food was the BOMB and a LIFESAVER and DELISH!

Maybe you can hire her as your gift. LOL

  • Thank you for all of the awesome ideas, ladies!!!  :):)

And LT, would you be for hire??? :)  I'm not sure if I'd do it for this friend b/c she'll have a lot of family around, but it would really be a great gift idea for the future if you'd do something like that! :):)

  • I know I'm responding late, but I wanted to add my 2 cents.  ;-)

I hate the boppy & the bumbo.  We never used the boppy and we used the bumbo only a few times.  My sitter did get some use out of the bumbo I guess.  We already had a ton of blankets due to A being in the nicu, and then we got more at the shower.  I don't think you should get paci's for people.  A use them for a short time in the hospital and that was it.  I have all these different types of paci's from people and don't know what the heck to do with them.

I like to give picky stickys (after I found out about them from Angi on here and I used them myself) and diapers, wipes, butt paste ~ that type of stuff.  I would also give a Sophie now that I have one and A loves it.
