I am planning to make this slow cooker chicken taco soup but I can't decide if I'm supposed to drain the canned beans before I put them in.  I've spent way too much time thinking about this and it's making me crazy.  What would you do?

Mmm soup.

I think where they do specify draining the corn but don't specify draining the beans, I would just dump in the beans as is...

Hmmm, I would've said the opposite, but only because I've never used beans in a soup recipe where they didn't have to be drained first.  That said, maybe chili beans are different because they're seasoned, so the whole point is the saucy nature.

Oops, I stopped at chili beans.  Yep, I agree with this.

I think I would drain all the beans.

here is a vote for half draining the beans, that's what I do when I want to make DH feel better about there being 'bean snot' in his food. Drain of the top, but don't try too hard.

I would drain all the beans but only rinse the black beans.  That way, some of the spicyness of the chili beans will remain.

I go back and forth with this...I make chili pretty regularly and usually I just dump the kidney beans in with the liquid.  For some reason, yesterday, I chose to drain and rinse them.  I know canned beans tend to be salty when you don't rinse them, so you may need to add/cut back additional salt depending on what you decide.  For the chili, I added some tomato paste and water to increase the liquid I lost when I drained the beans.

Some recent recipes I have used said not to drain the beans because the starch helps to thicken the liquid.  Either way I'm sure is fine

Somehow I missed this post.

Anyway, it's probably too late, but FWIW, DH always says drain them. He swears it reduces the 'toots' that come with the beans.  Honestly, haven't noticed a difference.
