Our laptop is less than a year old. It came with Trend as the anitvirus software. The guy that recommended our laptop to us also recommended installing the free AVG instead, which I did. Unfortunately, it had to be sent it due to abuse from G last summer. Everything had to be reinstalled. It took me awhile to switch from Trend to AVG and when I did, I installed the free 30 day trial version. I noticed my computer was slowing down. Eventually I uninstalled the Trend and more recently switched to the free AVG. Our computer is still slow. I am thinking that there is something related to the antivirus that I need to shut off. The other possibility could it be related to our ISP? Our neighborhood had an outage two weeks ago. My computer was impossibly the slow the day before so I thought perhaps something happened during the outage. If anyone knows AVG, please help! TIA
Re: XP: Computer help
Define slow computer.
with actually looking at your computer the answer is possible but not likely. Possible b/c it could be doing a virus scan when you are using it. wise it's not AVG. It could be that you did not completely remove Trend and that is causing a conflict. Could be there was other bloat ware that was installed with you sent (do not understand this) it. Could be that you are using a lot of reasources etc. it's not going to be ISP. you would get a slow internet experince but not a slow down computer.
agree with pp
also, with the avg, make sure you go into the settings and set up a specific day and time for it to run it's scan. Mr mom had the slow computer issue and dh found that when she installed avg she didn't specify when to scan so it was scanning every time she booted up.
